Grounded Northern Cardinal, Cardinalis cardinalis. Likely the mate of the previous one, although I think we may have a couple of resident pairs. Had to crank the sliders pretty hard to pull this guy out of the shadows, so Happy Sliders Sunday!
A chipmunk pauses on a moss-covered log with one front paw raised. The side profile provides a clear view of its markings while the soft green background keeps attention on the animal. The photograph was made with an OM System OM-1, Olympus 300mm f/4 lens, and MC-14 teleconverter.
This land monitor (varanus bengalensis) raised its head nicely as I got closer to it. The animal's snout is a little muddy from foraging - its diet is varied, including mice, ants, fruit, frogs, spiders, scorpions and beetles. Photographed in Yala, near Kirinda, Sri Lanka.

Second day of almost non stop rain so trips to the wetter than usual wetlands are rather limited. I took this a few days ago.

Our furry feline friend illuminated in the darkness.
To get this picture we turned off all the lights and used a single off-camera flash to illuminate Tsunami's face. His captivated expression was due to his favorite fish toy being dangled just off screen. We chose black and white to accentuate the high contrast in this picture.
Selfie under the Milky Way and a bright Jupiter in a creek in Blacks Gap, north of Hawker, South Australia. A vertical panorama of 5 shots, taken during astro twilight. Two speedlites were used as well as a lamp, with a spike filter on the lens. Stiched in Photoshop, edited in Lightroom with daylight white balance, Sigma lens, finally with a lens profile (what took you so long Adobe??)

Shooting these lovely birds in the mangroves can be so challenging, except when they decide to take on a higher profile, as this Great Egret did this morning. Their beauty, once a magnet for slaughter, is now safely on full display.
