I bought Procreate to see if I was able to have a better feeling when drawing. I start working with Brushes, then Sketchbook but only Procreate makes me feel creative with the strokes design and control, this is my first attempt with Procreate playing with brushes for the background and the skin. Need a little more work but what the heck, I wanted to share!

I don't have a preferred setting for this brush. I like using it as a stamp.

This week, while I was playing with my cat, Elsie, I noticed how beautifully the sunlight was coming through the blinds. Recently, I've been intrigued by sunlight and how it acts when interrupted or how it makes things glow. I watched a tutorial from another digital artist to understand how to approach painting it.

You can see in my video that I started with a sketch, line art, and coloring in basic shapes. Next was highlights and shadows and fleshing out more colors. I really had to consult with the original picture (see picture 2/3) to study how the sunlight interacted with the rug and backdrop. It was my favorite part: trying to make sunlight convincing.

In the following weeks, I want to keep studying light. I'm thinking about focusing on just a backdrop next. I want to study how sunlight wraps around objects and lights up a room.

I think that digital art (on an Ipad or tablet with Procreate) would be a great tool for students. It's not messy and doesn't require a big set up like easel or paints. I wish that Ipads weren't so expensive so that I could just send one home with each student and tell them to just work from it. Pick something of interest and draw, draw, draw.

Maybe they take pictures while hiking. They notice that the mountains far away have a bluish tone. They start studying atmospheric perspective and practicing different ways to capture that digitally. I would love that for my future students.

Procreate iPad 2(illustration from mind)

I don't have a preferred setting for this brush. I like using it as a stamp. This one isn't square, but Procreate will stretch it to a more roundish shape.

Traci F was my inspiration for this piece. This is my first attempt tangling on my iPad. It's been interesting trying to figure out the digital tools. I may have to add to this one but its a nice first try
