Flickr is full of such images, each trying to capture the repeating sequence of curling stairs, some more effective, some less. I suspect this falls in the latter category, but there is, nevertheless, something appealing in the balance of the frame that arrests the eye a little.

An unnamed staircase in Oxford, September 2021. iPhone SE using ProCamera and a little editing in Affinity.

If you like my photographs, please consider buying a print at my website, captures.life. I haven't yet finished building the site and putting in all of the terms and conditions and policies, but the bits that involve buying a print, having it delivered, and contacting me if anything isn't working or goes wrong are functioning just fine...

Some people have asked me how I achieve these effects, such as above, on my iphone so I have created a website www.iphoneographycentral.com on which myself and many of the world's leading iphoneographers share our work flows via step-by-step tutorials. Today's photo was taken this afternoon in Pig Wood, which is in the Tile Hill area of Coventry. The view is looking out across a small pond with part of the wood behind.

The photo was taken using the app ProCamera on my iPhone 6.

First I used the app Snapseed to edit the picture. I applied the Tonal Contrast preset and decreased the Highlights and Shadow areas. I then boosted the Saturation, Contrast, Warmth and Ambiance. I finally applied a vignette to the image. After this I used the app Artista Impresso to apply the Warm Blush painterly preset from the Alla Prima section. Finally I used PhotoToaster to add the Tone preset, the Vibrant FX and a Small Dark Vignette. I then applied the Canvas texture and the Stacked frame.

The image for today was taken this evening at home. The view is my entry for Macro Mondays. The theme for this weeks entry is Arrow. It is an image of the direction arrows on an old Saitek Eclipse Illuminated keyboard. As always the image was taken and edited on my iPhone 6.

The photo was taken using the app ProCamera on my iPhone 6.

First I used the app Snapseed to edit the photo. I Cropped the image and applied the Tonal Contrast filter. I then boosted the Contrast, Saturation and Ambiance. I also decreased the Highlights a little and added some extra Structure. Next I used the app Shockmypic to apply an abstract artistic effect to the image. Finally I used PhotoToaster to add the Tone preset, the Vibrant FX and a Large Dark Vignette. I then applied the Canvas texture and the Stacked frame.

Today's image was taken late this afternoon in the countryside near to the village of Berkswell. The view is looking out over a golden field of wheat, with the contrast of a couple of trees against the blue in the sky.

The photo was taken using the app ProCamera on my iPhone 6.

First I used the app Snapseed to edit the photo. I cropped and straightened the image and applied the Tonal Contrast filter. I then decreased the Highlights and boosted the Saturation, Vibrance and Contrast. Next I used the app Glaze to apply a painterly look to the image using one of the Oil paint looking presets from the Rose section. Finally I used the app PhotoToaster to add the Warm preset and the Vibrant FX. I then added the Stucco texture and the White Inset frame.

ProCamera photos processed using iColorama & Procreate

(1 butterfly image is R.F. googled) on the iPad Pro L with Apple Pencil.

I liked the pose I created here with intentions of using it in such composition. The facial features have been changed through painting them in the Procreate app. The butterflies were from various photos of such that were also painted in the procreate app. There is a large painted photo of a flower above the head which was accentuated in iColorama by using the form> Ray tool. All was assembled in iColorama with a variety of techniques that resulted in this final "mindfulness" presentantation which includes the repeating tree branches to remind us further of natures import.

ProCamera photos & parts of drawings done in Procreate further processed using Pixelmator & iColorama on iPad Pro L using Apple Pencil.

The photo of the girl was a rather whimsical, lymp, free pose mixed with a secondary photo which beckoned my artistic instincts to turn it into a digital watercolor, my medium of expression outside of the digital world. I used Pixelmator to resize, remove background & change some color parts of photos & elements. Some photos used were turned into contour drawings in iColorama with most contour line drawn in Procreate while continuing to experiment in both apps for watercolor effects, color, composition & story. The butterflies were all drawn in Procreate as well as contour lines from an over enlarged flower as seen simply in the background. I wanted to do something unexpected so I veered off into a color palette with a feel of slight mornfulness & deceit, thus the name, 'Butterfly Lies'. I added a slightly agitated feel on the center area of the girl in iColorama & then repeated original pose twice in watercolor like, rather souless replicas of the main figure in the background. I love experimenting with the artistic possibilities of Apps & photos, changing reality into what initially it may not be.
