The studio closed in In April 2013, NPR moved from its home of 19 years (635 Massachusetts Avenue NW) to new offices and production facilities at 1111 North Capitol Street NE in a building adapted from the former C&P Telephone.
UAE: Palme Middle East 2011 is to include a major education programme on the importance of cabling, produced in association with Italian manufacturer Reference Laboratory. A series of daily seminars has been planned while the Reference Laboratory booth will boast live demonstrations throughout the show.
The move comes as part of a comprehensive education plan at this year’s exhibition, which takes place between April 26th and 28th, including a host of seminars on varying topics hosted by SAE. However, the cabling events ¬are set to take place away from the show floor in a dedicated area on the first floor of the Dubai World Trade Centre. Among the topics covered will be cabling for live events, broadcasting and recording studios. Four seminars per day are planned to take place, with additional live demonstrations by musicians on the Reference Laboratory booth.
‘We’re very excited to be working with Reference Laboratory on this as it is an aspect of education that no one in the region has tried before,’ enthused Palme Middle East organiser Eben Botha. ‘Cabling is not always looked at properly – most people tend to focus on microphones, loudspeakers and mixers, and can sometimes neglect to think of cables despite them being such an important part of the signal chain. We want to educate people and show them how important it is.’
Reference Laboratory managing director Angelo Tordini – well known in the professional audio industry for his dedication to educating the market as to the importance of cabling – is keen to stress that the events will be an opportunity to improve the overall quality of a signal chain, and not sales led, with independent freelance engineers taking part. He also paid tribute to the unique opportunities for education that the Middle East presents.
‘Signal that is lost along the audio chain due to unsuitable cables cannot be recovered, so this is about education,’ Mr Tordini explained. ‘We are going into depth on how to have ‘in your face’ sound. I first arrived in Dubai in 2002. I did the Palme show and I realised that education is very important in the Gulf. The investment here in auditoriums, conference rooms, events and so on is intensive, and all of this investment needs to be put into projects that are 100 per cent correct. Someone needs to pick up the challenge of explaining the importance of cabling, the concept behind that, because cabling is really important for getting the best out of that investment. The Middle East presents a great opportunity because the people working here are keen and ready to understand.’
