Not my usual fare for a Doors Open event, but I've been working on improving my own audio production skills for both my voice-over work on video and the CCR podcast. So what better place to ask some questions than a professional recording studio. Plus as a bonus I got to use a massive SSL recording desk, see a 24-track reel-to-reel tape, and see how compressors and tube amps work in the real world.

Kraftwerk Computer World Hazeltine 1500 by Kraftwerk Endless

Yes - the very same computer terminal as seen on Kraftwerk's monumental album cover for 1981's Computer World - how meta! Our Tubular Tokes pal Skylar Strickland with his uncanny knowledge of 80's terminal computing is a godsend - we now have a serial interface for our restored Hazeltine 1500 terminal and some BASIC language code to refresh the screen with new ASCII art every 10 seconds. We will transition from a netbook to a Raspberry Pi for the control and tuck that away in the Hazeltine. With any luck we'll figure out other uses too, so chip in if you have a thought on this.

Also thanks to the crew at Tampa's ProAudio for diagnosing & fixing the broken wire in the CRT deflection coil and to Ty Kefton for risking life and limb with the flyback transformer!
