Built in 1877 this Grade 2 listed building housed a 60" pumping engine bought second-hand from Great Wheal Vor. The mine was renamed several times during its working life, from West Godolphin in the 1830's to North Great Work in the early 1860's, Godolphin Hill in 1864, and back to West Godolphin in 1866. The mine produced 4 tons of copper ore and 10 tons of black tin from 1860-1962 as North Great Work, and 210 tons of 17% copper ore and 1,510 tons of black tin from1870 to 1890. By the time the mine closed in 1890 Wilson's Shaft had reached 125 fathoms.
A similar viewpoint to the previous image - except being an aerial view - the engine house itself is very difficult to access, being completely surrounded in October 2018 by dense vegetation.
Due to budgetary issues stemming from the fall of the Democriet union, the Presidential Palace also doubles as a storage depot for reserve tank hulls.
