This is the latest picture of my 3d printer. clearly not very far but i'm trying to improve the quality of the parts so everything is nice and square - which is also why i abandoned the mendel design and went back to the square design darwin uses. other than looking at the blender 3d model of mendel, i've not looked at any other 3d printers.

I can't count all the sheets that I've printed from this printer. It's a shame that Rutgers will start limiting printing next year.
Opinion: a digitally-driven revival of interest in sewing proves that people want to create, but the 3D-printing movement is failing to cater to a market that wants something practical and beautiful, says Alexandra Lange.

November 2-5, 1973 labor dispute between the Columbia Typographical Union 101 printers and the Washington Post. It was triggered over the firing of a union printer but had roots in both an expired labor agreement and the introduction of computers into the printing industry.
The printers claim they were locked out by management and the Post claimed the printers engaged in an illegal work stoppage that began Friday, November 2nd. The Post obtained a court injunction against the printers but the dispute continued. The Post suspended publication of both its Saturday and Sunday editions, but prepared to publish its Monday edition by relying on keypunch operators producing a tape that would drive the linotype machines usually set by printers. Supervisory officials began preparing to operate the presses without members of the pressmen’s union, which had honored the 550-member printer’s picket line.
At around midnight Sunday, members of the pressmen’s union entered the Post building at their normal time. However instead of running the presses, they staged a sit-in. U.S. Marshalls briefly prevented anyone from entering or exiting the building and the Post reached an emergency agreement with the printers union that permitted them to publish a limited Monday’s edition. Full production resumed Tuesday, Nov. 6th.
This dispute foreshadowed the pressmen’s strike two years later that ended in defeat for the unions at the Post. Columbia Typographical Union 101 was the oldest labor union in the city—tracing its roots back to 1815 and was at the forefront of the local labor movement for over 100 years often hosting the meetings of both the Knights of Labor and the American Federation of Labor.
The union’s existence ended in 1986 when the International Typographical Union was merged into the Communications Workers of America. This dispute took place at 1150 15th Street NW where the Washington Post still maintains its headquarters.

These platens are still in use all over the world and I have seen them in the Philippines and in Turkey and Greece. They are perfect for printing items that require numbering and perforating such as raffle tickets.
