The Makerbot Replicator 2 is a consumer printer that uses Fused Deposition Modeling to print objects. Folks generally recommend one to use such printers when working on a budget and where surface finishes are not so important.

The Makerbot Replicator 2 costs 2208 USD while the material (filament) costs between 43USD and 130USD for a kilogram - see it in action below.

1067. A clearer close-up of the historic vessel HMAS TINGIRA that was featured in the last entry. In 1935 she was again sold to two Sydney business people who had a plan to convert the old ship into a floating museum, but in the Depression the venture plan fell into financial difficulties, and she was eventually sold for scrapping. As we redesign the giant printer, we're considering what tools we can use to make it possible. Rapid prototyping via CNC allows us to quickly and easily iterate and design new parts and functionality, test it, and re-design again. This is the newest design, using a multiple pulley system which controls the speed of the string holding up the printer head... more to come soon!

Robotron printer with roll paper holder and single sheet tray (not auto sheet feeder!)

After seeing the official Android USB sticks, I thought I'd make my own.

Our printer/photocopier at work gobbles up paper all day.

Here is another example of how I use the Form1 for production of our Smart Doll.

I've created a mecha hand in 3D using Autocad Inventor and then opened it in the PreForm software.

I then create support structures and decide where on the Build Platform it should be built - printing in the same spot all the time means that overtime, the Resin Tank will start to get cloudy due to the laser going through the same spot over and over again which will lead to print fails.

The tank is going to get cloudy overtime anyway but moving the build location around the platform will help prolong the life of the tank.

Once thats done, I upload the data to the Form1 printer via the USB cable.

Printers - love 'em or hate 'em. I needed new ink cartridges for my HP printer – they are very securely packaged … and they cost a lot :(

Satchmo is in love with my new printer. I have never had a printer at home before and he is fascinated by the noises it makes and the moving parts he can see inside.

but looks kinda cool though

Looking for 3d printer ghosting? Visit lenticularworld.com/how-to-prevent-ghosting/. Lenticular ghosting refers to a situation where more than one image is visible at certain viewing angles. In other words, you see an additional image (or multiple images) along with the image you should be seeing at a certain angle. For more details, watch this video.

The Epson 3800 is incredible -- but check out the packing tape. I think I counted 45 pieces of blue tape that held the thing in place for shipping, some buried inside. I stuck them on my printer table as I removed them.

Printer stand I designed and made for my student's office. The top pockets are used to store the printouts not picked up. The design is close to an ideal setup for a shared printer.

Most people associate 3-D with fantastic filmmaking, but it also refers to the printing technology of the future. The Kids’ Research Lab’s analog 3-D printer demonstrates how this piece of equipment works.

This is game play from an old ZX81 game of mine using the ZX printer.

The Shader Printer. The laser we use is about 20 times more powerful than a laser pointer. So like a microwave, we print in a shielded environment.

BJ spotted this at Off the Wall in Austin and I needed little convincing to buy it. Possible things to display: candy :), jewelry, plastic animals ...
