The former Bethel United Church (1871-1950s) in Prince Edward, Ontario, Canada.
It was originally erected as a Wesleyan Methodist Church in 1871, and is still referred to as Doxsee's Church.

"The Princes' Gates is a triumphal arch and a monumental gateway at Exhibition Place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Made out of cement and stone, the triumphal arch is flanked by colonnades on both of its sides, with curved pylons at both ends. The 350-foot-long (110 m) structure serves as the eastern gateway to the Canadian National Exhibition, an annual agricultural and provincial fair held at Exhibition Place.
The Princes' Gates was initially conceived in the 1920s, forming part of a larger redevelopment effort of the eastern portions of Exhibition Place. Work began on Princes' Gates in April 1927, and was completed several months later in August. The structure was initially planned to be named the Diamond Jubilee of Confederation Gates, with its opening coinciding with the 60th anniversary of Canadian Confederation. However, the structure was named Princes' Gates, after Edward, Prince of Wales and Prince George were scheduled to officially open the new structure. The structure was officially opened by the two princes on August 30, 1927. Since its completion, the structure has undergone several restorations. In 1987, the municipal government named Princes' Gates as a "structure of architectural and historic interest" under the Ontario Heritage Act".
I spent yesterday in airplanes, so I have no images. Thought a shot from today illustrating the contrast from warm sunny Oklahoma to cold sunny Ontario was fitting!

This is a unique image for in that the only light source here is from a pulse of lightning through the clouds. I shot this at nearly 11:30 at night, and it was otherwise pitch black out. For this split second, though, the whole scene was lit by a giant strobe filtered through the clouds. You can see how deeply crushed the shadows still are, but the bay comes alive with the reflected light. You can see a bolt on the right side of the image. This is Pleasant Bay in Prince Edward County, Ontario. It's amazing how unique lighting conditions can produce very unique images. Right time, right place.

Crazy times, my friends! There's a lot of uncertainty and fear out there, so I thought I would share a peaceful, happy image today. This is my wife and I, enjoying a moment of peace and connection. As a minister, I have devotional on the subject of peace and rest during isolation if you would like something positive to watch during this time. You can see it here: youtu.be/_uc3_aWlxDQ | I've just started my review of the companion lens to this one - the Voigtländer 110mm F2.5 Macro. You can see the photo gallery from that lens here:

Ma, Wai Chung Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioner (and his father, also a very well known Chinese Medicine Practitioner) was pretty well known back in the prime time. Unfortunately, their property needed to be reconstruct due to its old age as the building is almost 70 years old, and seems like they have nowhere to go.

In 1800 as the Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, was preparing to return to England. Obsessed with punctuality, the Commander-in-Chief of the British military made this clock a parting gift. This was to ensure the city's military forces were always on time.
The Old Town Clock was installed in October 1803. The Town Clock, is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the historic of Halifax. It is on the hill below the Halifax Citadel. It still has the original clockworks are still intact and in use.

Ahh, summer camp. For some of us this was a staple of our childhood, and it is definitely one for my children. I haven't been posting often because we have been away for weeks at our church campground on Lake Ontario. This is the road leading out of the campgrounds, the beginning of the nearly four hour drive home. Looking in the rearview mirror you can already see the heads drooping in the back seats as the "camp adrenaline" wears off and exhausted teens and children start falling asleep. It's the long road home, and the cementing of yet another round of memories.

We are well into the second half of December, so fishing season is long past. These boats are sitting on their cradles on dry land waiting for the coming year when they will once again be back on the sea earning a living.

Summer in Ontario, Canada means cottage season for many people. Those long evenings by the river or the lake enjoying Canadian nature at its finest. The hardship of winter is a distant memory and we get to complain about the heat instead of the cold. I shot this image shortly after 9:00 in the evening. The sun has already dipped below the horizon, but the warm glow lingers. I silhouetted a picnic table out on a dock. I kicked the rule of thirds out the door and centered the subject. The reflected light off the deck boards provided a nice lead in to the picnic table, which silhouetted here takes on almost the appearance of a shrine - which may be appropriate as outdoor pursuits IS the religion for many Canadians. My work is cut out for me! This image was featured in Flickr's Explore at position 182

Excerpt from www.mtr.com.hk: As an international metropolis, Hong Kong is like a brilliant self-restrained eternal flower.
The artistic conception of the painter is "independent mentality, unique skills and creative style". Buoyed by this conception, the painter has kept pursuing his unique artistic style. Eventually, he found "fission" technique and took it as his "unique skill" in art.
"Fission" technique grows with Chinese culture. One day in 1982, the painter happened to find "fission" on a common old slate. Through refinement and improvement in the past 20 years, this eventually became his philosophic and artistic language and became a unique "fission art". Painting created using fission lines is natural and cannot be imitated by others.
The painter uses this fission language to portray blooming flowers and portray the beauty of nature. He uses unique techniques to convey the best side of life to pedestrians and visitors in Hong Kong.
The Italianate style of architecture was a distinct 19th-century phase in the history of Classical architecture. In the Italianate style, the models and architectural vocabulary of 16th-century Italian Renaissance architecture, which had served as inspiration for both Palladianism and Neoclassicism, were synthesised with picturesque aesthetics. The style of architecture that was thus created, though also characterised as "Neo-Renaissance", was essentially of its own time. "The backward look transforms its object," Siegfried Giedion wrote of historicist architectural styles; "every spectator at every period—at every moment, indeed—inevitably transforms the past according to his own nature."

I was at a camp shooting this past week, and the region where the camp is located is going through a localized drought. The grass and fields are scorched and brown. It is a region known for things like wineries, cherries, and farming, but right now it looks pretty barren. I was walking through a field of burned out grass when I saw a weed with lovely lavender flowers growing on it - chicory, as it turns out. I was leaning in close for this shot when a friend, walking by, said, "beauty in all things." I had to agree. I did a little research on chicory and discovered that it thrives in poor soil. It actually grows best in places where moisture is minimal and can adapt (and thrive) in the harshest of conditions. Sometimes there is beauty in barren places...so even if you are going through a barren spot in your life right now, stop and look for the beauty. Or, better yet, BE that spot of beauty in a barren place. Thrive!

There's a lot of collages online based around Hong Kong's iconic MTR subway names on the station walls. The best are on tiled walls, tiny square tiles that are a mainstay in bathrooms and kitchens in the city. It's mainly seen at stations from the original lines when it opened in the 80s; newer lines silkscreen the name on bland metal wall covers.
I was in Hong Kong for 2 days and planned to get dramatic outdoor shots with Elvis, shots that still eluded me after so many trips. Shots like sunrise from the Peak, which means leaving the hotel at 5:30am...
The weather didn't co-operate. I landed in heavy smog / haze, and the sun never shone through once. Plan B was this: rain or shine, the subway runs so I spent a few hours criss-crossing Hong Kong, and getting some help in Photoshop to generate this lovely collage.
