Pont Llanfair is an 18th Century 'Grade 2 Listed' stone arched bridge that spans the River Elwy in the village of Llanfair Talhairarn Conwy - itself within an area of outstanding natural beauty.

The River Elwy is a tributary of the much larger River Clwyd which it joins one mile north of the City of St. Asaph before entering the Irish Sea via its tidal estuary at Rhyl on the North Wales Coast.

Calm and idyllic today, but every Winter the River regularly floods. Most recently, aside of again damaging nearby properties, the sheer power of the water also ripped up trees and destroyed roads.

The scale of destruction was immense! Including the River Clwyd tens of square miles were flooded.

In recent years, especially around St. Asaph, high flood defence walls have now been built. Upstream, further flood preventive schemes have been completed and are still ongoing.

Built in 1879, Cobble Hill Towers is an iconic and beloved architectural Landmark. The buildings - with their cross-ventilation, private courtyards and exterior staircases - were an attempt by philanthropist Alfred T. White to create a new model for worker housing. Mr. White was successful in creating other homes for working people in Brooklyn, including the Workingmen’s Cottages (adjacent to Cobble Hill Towers on Warren Place), and the Riverside Apartments on Columbia Place in Brooklyn Heights.

Journalist and reformer Jacob Riis references these building in Constructive and Preventive Philanthropy, published in 1906 (note Cobble Hill Towers was known at that time as the Tower and Home buildings): “The most famous model tenement enterprises in America are the Home, Tower, and Riverside buildings, erected respectively in 1877, 1878, and 1890, by Alfred T. Friday morning started early, with the lady's hospital visit scheduled for 0620 in Osky. A successful preventive surgery found her sidelined most of the day, but she felt good enough to go hang out with a few friends downtown so we went to check out Live After Five in Central Park. I'd happened to hear the local getting permission through a Form B en route, so we took a quick detour and barely beat it to the station. I'd have preferred to see the yellow leading, but I'll take a trio of standard cabs any way I can.

New since my last time in town, the platform fencing north of Main 1 is halfway installed and primed. It's supposed to be black when it's finished. I can't believe it'll be too much longer before they start tearing out the platform on M2, as it looks like the track work on the west end of town it going hot and heavy. I forgot to poke around and see if anything's started on the east-end one-way crossover.

For the Crocus flowers I feel a special tenderness and affection !!Not only because they look like happy little children in the Kindergarten, but also because they affirm the happy return of Spring, and everything that will be springing right afterwards!!! I love them so, when I see them with their petals wide open, whenever the sun cuddles them…And when they close them back in the evening, or when the sun disappears..

This year we have had in Belgium one of the mildest Winters I have known!! The earth creatures in my garden behave like it is the ….beginning of March , or even later!! All the Rose- shrubs are covered with tender little leaves!!I have to start practicing my preventive spraying against the Rose diseases…Yesterday I worked for the first time this year in the garden, with a bright sun and 11°C!!! Oh, how I enjoyed it!! Happy Springtime, everybody!!!!

Meaning 1st trip Metro to Ilocos and v.v. then 2nd trip Metro to La Union- Candon v.v. then off to garage @ Valenzuela if not again Metro- Ilocos till the time comes that the bus is affected by coding, then its up for Valenzuela for the Preventive Maintainance. Most likely over-heated na yan!

School districts, community colleges, the California State University system, and the University of California overall are struggling to get monies needed for operations. In the early 2000s, a school bus driver who knew how to work on these buses worked half a shift driving and the other half doing oil changes and preventive maintenance with the district mechanic.

This is a roughly 1978-1981 Crown Coach, notorious among fleet garages. Since the early 1950s models, they all look about the same. One fleet mechanic told me Crown went out of business because their buses were made so well they never wore out. Lending credence to his claim, Crown established a business upgrading their old buses. Once, a gentleman entered the office and asked if any of these would be coming up for sale soon. I told him there were no plans. "These are the only buses that can survive the roads in my part of Mexico," he reported. I remember being surprised the first time I looked underneath and saw the size of the steel frame rails. This coach had the biggest brake drums I'd ever seen.

This bus had a two cycle 6-71 Detroit Diesel and a 5-speed manual transmission. This means it has six cylinders of 71 cubic inches each. The engine sits horizontally under the floor just behind the front axle. It makes the most beautiful percussive clatter at idle. I like to say these Detroit Diesels sound like someone is pouring ball bearings down the air intake at idle. This model has the first anti-lock brake system called FS-121. They had a reputation for being troublesome and federal regulations allowed them to be disconnected. These were still hooked up and reportedly worked fine. I believe the high-backed seats in this one were retrofitted in order to comply with regulations.

Crown was originally in Los Angeles. Later, their factory moved east of Los Angeles to Chino. They made fire engines, school buses, and a few tour buses.

In the National Park of St-Narcisse, huge boulders create fun trickly passages for white water streams, where all kinds of interesting formations can be found, along with some of their critter residents. Quite a few co-hikers came here to cool-off, picnic & have cold beers...in Quebec we have no preventive laws regarding public alcohol consumption 😋

The Florida Department of Health (FDOH) was established by the Florida Legislature in 1996; however, public health has its roots in Florida dating back to 1888 with the creation of the Florida State Board of Health. In 2007, the first-ever State Surgeon General was established to spearhead the efforts of FDOH, thereby designating a health officer to oversee all matters of public health. The Surgeon General’s role is to be the state’s leading advocate for wellness and disease prevention.

FDOH is an executive branch agency, established in section 20.43, F.S. FDOH is led by a State Surgeon General, who serves as the State Health Officer and is directly appointed by Florida’s Governor, and confirmed by Florida’s Senate. FDOH has three deputy secretaries that oversee all of its business and programmatic operations.

FDOH is comprised of a state health office (central office) in Tallahassee, with statewide responsibilities; Florida’s 67 County Health Departments (CHDs); 22 Children’s Medical Services (CMS) area offices; 12 Medical Quality Assurance (MQA) regional offices; nine Disability Determinations regional offices; and three public health laboratories. Facilities for the 67 CHDs are provided through partnerships with local county governments. These 67 CHDs have a total of 255 sites throughout the state, providing a variety of services, and ranging from small to large in location size.

FDOH is accountable to the state legislature, the Executive Office of the Governor, all residents and visitors in the state, and the federal government. FDOH is responsive to priorities identified by the Governor and the legislature in determining services, associated funding, and delivery mechanisms. Annually, the state legislature passes a budget, approved by the Governor, and creates or amends laws that direct FDOH’s actions.

Florida Health represents the vision that health belongs to everyone and every group—not just a state agency. It takes individuals, families, communities, and partnerships with local and state-level policy makers and stakeholders to create a culture of health in Florida. While our agency is the spearhead for public health in the state, we are all stewards of health in Florida. Florida Health belongs to all of us.
