Cathedral Notre-Dame-du-Puy

The Cathedral is the origin of the Chemin du Puy, one of the principal origin points of the pilgrimage route of Santiago de Compostela in France.
"Le Puy-en-Velay's most striking attraction is the Cathédrale Notre-Dame du Puy, dating chiefly from the first half of the 12th century. The façade, striped in courses of white sandstone and black volcanic breccia, is reached by a flight of sixty steps, and consists of three orders, the lowest composed of three high arcades opening into the porch, which extends beneath the first bays of the nave. Above it are three central windows that light the nave, and above them are three gables on the gable-end of the nave, flanked by two openwork screening gables. The south transept doorway is sheltered by a Romanesque porch. Behind the choir rises a separate Romanesque bell-tower in seven storeys.
The bays of the nave are roofed by octagonal cupolas, the cupola at the crossing forming a lantern; the choir and transepts are barrel vaulted. The striking parti-colored cloister is connected to remains of 13th-century fortifications that separated the cathedral precincts from the rest of the city. Near the cathedral, the 11th-century baptistery of St John is built on Roman foundations.

This is a "Muselet" - a sort of wire cage which prevents the cork in a champagne bottle from emerging too quickly due to the pressure of the contents. It prevents a cork projectile from injuring guests - and also an unfortunate loss of unrestrained bubbly! Always stay safe with Champagne!

The Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve is a beautiful wetland site located along the Vedder River. Managed by the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve Society, the site is known for one of the largest breeding colonies of the Great Blue Herons in BC as well as a wide variety of wildlife. Over 90 active Great Blue Heron nests.

For years we human and wild life exist on the same land and fighting for nature resources. Despite all kind of agricultural prevention technique the wild life just wouldn’t step down for their very existence sake. It is intriguing to see how the two kinds exist in the same place for the same purpose.

On 29 March, it was rumoured that the PCR screening results in Pudong, Shanghai were so horrific that Puxi would be closed for control one after another earlier than the original date of 1 April. This caused a rush to buy. Streets turned into vegetable markets.

An entrepreneur has come up with these boxes to prevent porch pirates... This one block in Bed Stuy had four of them (three in this picture). Not nearly as ubiquitous as the "Red Claw" steering wheel locks of the 1990s, but definitely a presence. The City of Opa-Locka was the vision of aviation pioneer, Glen Curtiss. Opa-Locka is an urban community occupying 4.2 square miles in the North-Western area of Miami-Dade County, Florida. The city boundaries are as follows: on the North-NW 151st Street, on the South - N.W. 125th Street, on the East – NW 45th Avenue on the West. On May 14, 1926, Opa-Locka was chartered as a town by twenty-eight registered voters.
The area was originally named by the Native Americans “Opa-tisha-wocka-locka” meaning “a big island covered with many trees and swamps” but the name was quickly shortened to Opa-Locka. The City was developed based on the Arabian Nights theme which is evident by the large collection of Moorish architecture throughout the city and with street names like Sabur, Sultan, Ali Baba, Sharazad, Aladdin, and Sesame. Mr. Curtiss and architect, Bernhardt Muller, built 105 buildings with an array of domes, minarets, and outside staircases. By the time Mr. Curtiss completed his vision for Opa-Locka he had built a self-contained city with a hotel, zoo park, golf course, archery club, swimming pool, airport, and train station.
The September 1926 hurricane badly damaged the City, destroying many of the structures, but the surviving Moorish-style buildings continue to give Opa-Locka its unique appearance. Opa-Locka currently has twenty buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The U.S. Navy opened a base at the Opa-Locka Airport shortly after the hurricane which allowed the City to thrive after the hurricane but the base closed in the 1950s. The City experienced a decline and was labeled a "struggling community" in South Florida. Despite the challenges, the City has regained the spirit it was founded in 1926. Under the direction of Mayor Myra L. Taylor, city officials have vowed to turn the city around by focusing on crime prevention, cleaning up the city, and maintaining financial stability. This drive has generated an increased sense of community, pride among Opa-Locka residents, and a major drop in crime. In keeping with that vow and to advance community pride, the city became the first community in the United States to commemorate the first African-American President of the United States by renaming a mile-long section of Perviz Avenue from Oriental Boulevard to Ali-Baba Avenue, Barack Obama Avenue on February 17, 2009.
In addition to the unique buildings, Opa-Locka has a large general aviation airport, three parks, two lakes, and a railroad station which is currently the tri-rail station. The City is comprised of a mixture of residential, commercial, and industrial zones. Despite its limited resources, the City was the backdrop for the making of movies such as Texas Justice, Bad Boyz II, and 2 Fast 2 Furious.

A family eating KFC fast food outdoors next to a KFC restaurant hours before the city lockdown was announced in Shanghai on March 27. By this time, many areas of Shanghai had been sealed off and people were on edge. Afraid of the epidemic, or more so of the tyranny they would face if infected, this family avoided eating inside the KFC restaurant and took their meal outside instead.
