This was from 2017 and I have not been hearing about protests this time around but I am wondering if people are worried about violence at them inciting by Trump, who has shown this tendency in the past, of course. This young protestor is likely a teenager now and I feel the most sorry for kids who have now lived through so much damage to their country and their world.
It would be wrong to ignore the racism and sexism in America that is largely responsible for our current reality. However, make no mistake that there were many steps of voter suppression and redistricting to make sure that all votes didn't count equally or could be cast as easily.
In this country, it is not possible to hold most professional jobs (even an Occupational Therapist) as a felon but one can somehow hold the office of presidency. That is likely because no one in their wildest imagination could have dreamed a reckless criminal with complete disregard for Democracy could take over.
And here we are....stuck.

President Daud with some of The most Outstanding School Teachers at Presidential Palace Kabul - Afghanistan. it might be 1973 or 1974. My Mother is seen in this picture - the 3rd woman from the right. she awarded a medal for outstanding service for Education.
President Daud took power from his Cousin King Zahir in 1972 by a coup d'etat and form a Republic Government for the first time in Afghanistan. later in 1978 he replaced with a bloody coup d'etat by Followers of Soviet Union Communist Regime and was killed with all his family members.
