Been a while since I've posted a Trimet photo (album: flic.kr/s/aHskFZAnc2 ), so here you go from August of 2016 of the controversial WES train. Costs dozens of dollars per passenger to operate... for little commute trip reduction.

Thought on Mother's Day 2018, I'd finally get around to dropping this photo on my feed. Thanks to all the moms out there, you got an incredibly thankless job.

Thought I'd go a little retro here. I agree with my friend John Charles expanding WES is NOT a good idea: youtu.be/gODar9_45G8

Experience luxury travel at its finest with the Gran Class service on Japan's bullet trains. This image captures a beautifully presented meal served to Gran Class passengers, showcasing the meticulous attention to detail that defines this premium offering. The meal is elegantly arranged in a sleek black box with five distinct compartments, each featuring a gourmet delight.

The first compartment holds a savory tart with a golden, flaky crust and a vibrant green filling, likely a blend of spinach and cheese. It promises a delicious start to the meal with its rich, satisfying flavors. Next, a meticulously layered dish, possibly a terrine or mille-feuille, is accompanied by fresh green vegetables, providing a delightful contrast in textures and tastes. The third compartment offers a seaweed salad paired with a piece of rolled meat, likely ham or pork, adding a savory depth to the culinary experience.

In the fourth compartment, a crispy fried item, possibly a croquette or tempura, is served alongside thinly sliced carrots, creating a harmonious blend of flavors and textures. Completing the indulgent meal is a glass of white wine and a bottle of a light-colored beverage, enhancing the overall sense of luxury and refinement.

The Gran Class branding is prominently displayed on a napkin below the meal, underscoring the premium service and quality that passengers can expect. This meal is not just about sustenance; it's a testament to the exceptional service and culinary excellence that defines the Gran Class experience. Whether you are a seasoned traveler or enjoying Gran Class for the first time, this exquisite meal elevates your journey, making it truly unforgettable.

Thought some black & white action would be appreciated... here you go folks.

Here you go... the rarely-photographed Trimet Westside Express Service (WES) just to document transit. Happy I got an e-mail today from the manager of Trimet Customer Services who wrote me, "I have taken the time to review your experience on WES where you were told to stop taking photographs on the train. You are correct, as our vehicles are public property, you are entitled to photograph as you please. As our policy on the matter states, a permit is not required for non-commercial, personal-use filming or photography unless it interferes with transit operations, (including riders) or safety. I am sorry that the Conductor of the train informed you that photography wasn’t allowed on the train. This is not our policy. However, should a rider not wish to be photographed they may alert the Conductor of this and this may result in a rider being asked to no longer take photos inside the train. This may have been the case and I am sorry that this was not properly communicated to you. I am sure you are aware some cameras today can appear to be professional in nature and may make some riders feel as if they are being photographed professionally. I can assure you that I have addressed this with the proper levels of leadership and that we are informing riders properly about our photography policy." .

.

Much appreciate.

Posting this picture a bit early to illustrate what OPAL - an anti-poverty group - said about WES or Westside Express Service at www.opalpdx.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/LIFE-Report-Fi... : "Coupled with the fact that

WES only operates during weekday rush hours, commuters and other choice riders are the primary

beneficiaries of WES service, with few advantages shared with elderly, disabled, and otherwise transitdependent

residents living along the WES corridor. ... According to TriMet’s own performance and efficiency data, WES costs $16.11 per boarding passenger

to operate, compared with $3.18 for bus service and $2.51 for MAX Light Rail. Additionally, TriMet reports for May 2016 indicate an average of 8,775 weekly boardings on WES, a figure dwarfed by 1,176,200 weekly bus boardings and 755,600 weekly boardings on MAX. As a result, fares paid by bus and MAX riders are tantamount to a huge subsidy for a tiny niche of WES riders. This is evidence that lower-income bus riders carry a disproportionate amount of the financial burden of riding transit in the TriMet service area."

Clearly Trimet methinks would be better off with a low income fare and a premium fare for WES. I rode WES solely to say I rode WES with a straight face.

Really like the flare from the WES lights. Decided to slink this photo into my Flickr feed a bit early because as OPAL - an Oregon anti-poverty group - turned in yesterday, 'According to TriMet’s own performance and efficiency data, WES costs $16.11 per boarding passenger

You can read the report at www.opalpdx.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/LIFE-Report-Fi... explaining how to create a, "Reduced fare for low-income riders on the principle that mobility is a human right and public policy should attempt to lower barriers to mobility for all. A low-income pass is a step toward the ideal of an efficient, fareless transportation system accessible to all, regardless of ability to pay. "

We were flying UA's p.s. ("Premium Service") from SFO-JFK. We figured we had a snowball's chance of being upgraded on this flight (we were right) and so decided to try the "Premium Meal" that is offered on p.s. flights. It's rather expensive, but we were starting our vacation -- and it came with a glass of champagne. I was expecting one of those little one-serving screw-cap bottles but in fact a 750 mL bottle was loaded onto the aircraft for the two of us. :-D We finally had to tell the flight attendant to stop refilling our glasses after the third one. They were very attentive to us and I felt quite special.

Not a good outcome. At least the train back north from Hall/Nimbus to Beaverton was more full.

We were in Business on the return flight, and this Premium Meal breakfast in economy was far superior to the breakfast we got in Biz class.

I'm presuming it is time to drop this photo upon my followers on 1 Sept. 2016 as yesterday Oregon anti-poverty group OPAL wrote, "Coupled with the fact that

WES only operates during weekday rush hours, commuters and other choice riders 21 are the primary

beneficiaries of WES service, with few advantages shared with elderly, disabled, and otherwise transitdependent

residents living along the WES corridor." OPAL is rightfully calling for a premium fare on page 22 of 34 of this PDF: www.opalpdx.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/LIFE-Report-Fi... . Worth noting S*nd Transit does the same for their S*nder commuter rail.

Very nice station in Beaverton. One place for MAX, buses and WES. But sadly maintenance isn't a priority for Trimet...

Posting (finally) on 7 May 2017 folks because I really don't like Trimet's sense of priorities like running jackhammers at 0130 hours before a 0500 hours commute on WES. My friend Al made a rather blunt and uncouth YouTube about Trimet's failed priorities which you should please watch: youtu.be/dHMLGvomZgg . Also regarding WES, I'd listen/watch this radio clip from Cascade Policy: youtu.be/gODar9_45G8 .

I got my serious doubts if Trimet is making the right call to invest even more in WES. I mean it's documented WES is an energy hog: goo.gl/iLj8QF
