Robber flies are quite numerous in the Sicilian holiday garden. I was hoping to see one with prey and found this in the morning. It's on the handrail around the villa's patio and they tend to congregate in this spot to get the morning sunshine.

I wrapped up the day of diving with a cluster of horn sharks cruising around under the kelp canopy.

at the mall......go figure.

This is either a juvenile Red Tailed Hawk, Coopers Hawk or Sharp Shin Hawk. Spotted in the thick brush. Having looked at the article that Leslie referenced in her comment, it may well be a Red Tailed. One of the tests to tell if it's a red tailed vs. other is whether it's beefy or not. Red Tailed tend to be "beefy" and Coopers or Sharp Shinned, not so much. When observing it yesterday, both my wife and I simultaneously said, "that's a big one"

After a mostly sunny, hot day, the sun set to the horizon of the sky. As temps began to fall, a friend and I observed this big snake crossing a highway in front of us. We quickly picked it up out of the asphalt road and moved it to a more remote gravel road before traffic likely would have killed it. The snake was defensive, hissing and striking vigorously. After photos it was released in thick desert scrub to continue it's journey.

-Dutch, Predator (1987)

The scorpion headpiece from the Chima line had such a strong resemblance to the infamous Yautja aliens featured in the Predator movies that I just had to give it a shot. A little project that's been going back and forth since easter, finally finished it up and got posting again. Based of the Predator from the original movie, and some resemblance to the one featured in the newest Call Of Duty. Quite the special custom here really, with no cutting, gluing or 3rd party pieces, just a couple painted parts and decals.

Hopefully it won't be too long before I post again, should be done with some revised MW2 figs soon.

"Soon."

All custom decals designed, printed and applied by me.

As I said yesterday Carson and I went adventuring around Lost Lake which can be seen here. Basically its this really nasty lake that's usually green because of algae and is surrounded by 200ft cliffs that we like to play on. Here I'm on a little ledge that drops right off. While exploring in this area we also made friends with a porcupine that we named Josey. He made super cute sounds too!

Wasp spider (Argiope bruennichi)

Very smart predator. The milkweed blossoms attract tons of flies, bees, wasps, butterflies even before fully open. Not to mention aphids. Perfect place for an assassin to hang out.

Leafhopper Assassin Bug (Zelus renardii)

SUNSET / BLOOD FLOWER Scarlet Milkweed (Asclepias Curassavica)

Here is the latest installment in my 'Predator* series.

The Supporter is part a long range battlefield support wessel, part a harvester going low and slow consuming battlefield left overs..........

Recently i found parts from this: www.toysperiod.com/lego-set-reference/racers/radio-contro..., and i wanted to incorporate them into a MOC, and here it is!

The Predator MOC's will be part of a display soon.

Enjoy! ;-))

"A handsome hawk of the arid Southwest, Harris’s Hawk is a standout. The most social of North American raptors, these birds are often found in groups, cooperatively attending nests and hunting together as a team. When hunting, a group of hawks surround their prey, flush it for another to catch, or take turns chasing it."

I knew the leopard was hiding in a ditch next to the road and sat waiting for it to reappear. Without a sound and out of nowhere it suddenly stood on the roadside 8 meters away from my wide open car window, staring straight at me. I was so stunned that I nearly forgot to press the shutter button.

My friend Sophia has pointed out that this is most likely a juvenile bald eagle, seen in the Sacramento National Wildlife Reserve. Bald eagles are not actually bald; the name derives from an older meaning of "white headed". The adult is mainly brown with a white head and tail. The sexes are identical in plumage, but females are about 25 percent larger than males. The beak is large and hooked. The plumage of the immature is brown.

Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for all of your kind comments -- I appreciate them all.

predator on ice....coyotes are such efficient predators. They will often hunt in packs trying to spook 'game' to each other, while this guy was on the ice two others were up on the dam moving thru the grass, he was watching them intently waiting for them to spook out game..even a more efficient savanger

A female bordered mantis (I think Stagmomantis limbata) grooming. This is the time of year we find adults in our yard. In this species, the females don't fly (although they have wings, they're not big enough to get them airborne), so if I spot one I can usually find it again. They are usually either green or brown, but sometimes have markings that are pink or even purple. Photographed on a black background then released where found -- in the garden right outside my front door.

Large male giving us a bit too much attention in the sunset.

Lions are extremely water shy.

But sometimes it just does not work and they have to go through it.

These young lions here had no other chance. Their mothers had been waiting for them on the other side of the Khwai since morning. It took hours for one of the youngsters to take heart and speed through the water. The rest of his kinsfolk followed immediately. In 40 seconds, the spectacle was over and the lions were unmolested by crocodiles and frogs on the saving shore.

Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) - Circle B Bar Reserve, Florida

This young Great Blue Heron struggled for 15 minutes working this fish down. Many times it got to the position in the photo before having to throw it back in the water and 'tenderize' it a little more.

I must add that I personally had similar poses and expressions on my vacation to Nova Scotia. I really took advantage of the fresh seafood.
