Being extremely silly testing my ability to precisely toss and spin my camera. The object of the experiment was to match the spin of the ceiling fan blades so that they appear non moving while everything else moves.

The annual, invitation-only event brings more than 150 of the top junior marksmen to Fort Benning, Georgia to vie for top honors. Many of these juniors go on to shoot for colleges, military services and even the Olympics. This truly talented bunch of young athletes are something to watch! From my intimate portrait series, let me introduce Phil Lewis - better known as Phil the Frog Father. If you're a movie enthusiast, you'll catch the clever play on words in his nick name. (somewhere in this tale there will be some reference to frogs)
During a recent road trip to Northern New South Wales, we stopped in Forster for a day of exploration. We decided to visit Forster Beach Baths, where I spent some time soaking in the stunning scenery while keeping an eye on the kids. With my camera in hand, I wandered around, drawn to the magnificent landscapes and huge waves.
While walking along the wall of the pool, I noticed a gentleman swimming laps with focused precision. After a while, he climbed out of the water, still wearing his mask, and walked past me. We exchanged pleasantries—just a simple “hello” and “excuse me.” But then I couldn’t resist starting a conversation.
“That’s a strong northern accent,” I said. “My guess—Liverpool?”
“Spot on!” he replied with a smile, confirming he was indeed a Scouse
What followed was a fascinating conversation that wove through my own experiences in Liverpool and his journey to Australia in search of a new life. As we spoke, he noticed my camera gear and commented on it, revealing that he, too, was a passionate photographer. Phil specialises in underwater diving photography and has a unique focus on macro photography, particularly capturing frogs at night in national parks—a passion that inspired his moniker, The Frogfather.
Phil shared that he has a Facebook and Instagram page, where he showcases his stunning photography. In the process of heat treatment, the precision plastic injection mold often produces deformation. In order to prevent this kind of problem, as long as we grasp the deformation law, analyze the causes, and adopt different methods to prevent the deformation of the mold, it can be reduced and controlled. In general, the following methods can be adopted to prevent the heat treatment deformation of precision injection mold.
(1) Reasonable selection of materials: the micro deformation die steel with good material should be selected for the precision plastic injection mold, the mold steel with severe carbide segregation should be reasonably cast and carried out, and the large and non-casting mold steel can be treated with solid solution double refinement heat treatment.
(2) The mold structure design should be reasonable, the thickness should not be too different, and the shape should be symmetrical. For the large deformation mold, we should grasp the deformation pattern and reserve the processing allowance. For the large ones, the combined structures of precision injection mold can be adopted.
(3) The precision injection mold should be pre-heat treated to eliminate the residual stress in the process of mechanical processing.
(4) Reasonably select the heating temperature and control the heating speed. For the precision injection mold, slow heating, preheating and other balanced heating methods can be adopted to reduce the heat treatment deformation of the mold.
(5) Under the condition of ensuring the hardness of the mold, the pre-cooling, staged cooling quenching or warm quenching process of the injection mold should be adopted as far as possible.
(6) For precision injection mold, vacuum heating quenching and cryogenic treatment after quenching shall be adopted as far as possible if the premise permits.
(7) The precision of some precision and complicated dies can be controlled by pre-heating treatment, aging heat treatment, quenching, tempering and nitriding heat treatment.
(8) When repairing sand hole, air hole, wear and other defects of mold, cold welding machine and other repair equipment with small heat influence shall be selected to avoid deformation in the repair process.
