Construit sous Charles Quint en 1530, cet hôtel de ville est un charmant édifice à cheval sur le gothique et la Renaissance. Précédée d'un perron ouvragé, la façade, surmontée d'un pignon à redans, s'ouvre par de hautes baies en anse de panier.
Un premier hôtel de ville gothique fut édifié en cet endroit en 1359.
En 1526, les autorités de la Ville décident de procéder à l'édification d'un nouvel hôtel de ville et envoient une délégation à Malines pour prendre contact avec Rombout II Keldermans.
L'édifice fut conçu par ce dernier et Laureys Keldermans.
Built under Charles V in 1530, this town hall is a charming building straddling the Gothic and the Renaissance. Preceded by an ornate flight of steps, the facade, surmounted by a stepped gable, opens with high bay windows like a basket handle.
A first Gothic town hall was built here in 1359.
In 1526, the city authorities decided to proceed with the construction of a new town hall and sent a delegation to Mechelen to contact Rombout II Keldermans.
The building was designed by the latter and Laureys Keldermans.
The University of Illinois Laboratory High School, also known as Uni High or just Uni, was established in 1921 and is a laboratory school located on the engineering section of the University of Illinois campus in Urbana. Its enrollment is approximately 300 students, spanning five years (the traditional grades 9-12, preceded by an 8th grade year known as the "sub-freshman" year). The school is notable for the achievements of its alumni, including three Nobel laureates and a Pulitzer Prize winner.
The building which houses University Laboratory High School was constructed from 1917 through 1918 and was designed by Holabird & Roche in the Late Gothic Revival Style, with James. M. White as the supervising architect. When the building was completed, it was almost immediately converted into a general hospital for the Students’ Army Training Corp and School of Military Aeronautics for the duration of World War I. It was turned over to the high school in time for the beginning of the 1921-22 school year.
Uni is funded through the statewide per-pupil distribution financed in the Illinois state budget, the University of Illinois Provost's office, and donations by alumni and parents of current students. Uni does not receive any property tax revenue due to enrollment being competitive vs. dependent upon residency in a particular district. Students apply to enter Uni as part of the incoming "subfreshmen" class which, although composed of seventh and eighth grade aged students, completes a year at eighth grade level before continuing on to the ninth grade. Roughly 65 students are admitted each year, keeping the school's total enrollment near 320 students.
The relationship to the University provides a number of benefits to the students. Students get full access to the University's library system. Students over the age of 15 with sufficiently high grades can enroll in courses at the University. Credit earned in this manner may then be applied to future study at the university level. Additionally, Kenney Gym, the University's former men's gymnasium, is used by Uni for physical education and by the volleyball and basketball teams. The high school library is a branch of the University library system and for this reason has been called "the largest high school library in the world."

A summation point of the "Classic Re-Mixes" that preceded this image. Being unable to resist SOTN's challenge ( I was an abstract painter for 15 years before coming to the photographic arts ), I thought a good place to take this Classical Re-Mix thing before moving on would be into abstraction.
Here, I've done that with a lot of Monet's and a van Gogh, which lends a lovely "brushstroke" feeling to the texture of this and the following piece "A New Europa". Everything you see in these two pieces comes from painting except for some glowing edges and a bit of bevelling I applied to certain shapes.

I originally posted this flycatcher a couple of weeks ago saying that it was unusual to see one on the road. This is what he was doing......getting nest material. The interesting aspect is that his mate was guarding him from a tree across the road. Each time he came to the road she preceded him and landed in trees on the other side of the road where she could observe him. Each time he returned to the nest tree, she went first and led him. It happened about 10 times while I watched from a car blind.
Sufi Sama or Dhamaal is a special dance style unique to Sufis in Pakistan and India. The rhythmic beat of dhol i.e. drums, sometimes accompanied by other instruments, makes men sway and whirl their bodies into unusual and fascinating shapes.
In Sufi shrines in Pakistan, such as the Lal shrine in Sehwan, Sindh, the practice of Sufi whirling is called Dhamaal and is performed to honor Sufi saints. Unlike the Turkish practice, Dhamaal may be practiced by any devotee – priests as well as pilgrims. Dhamaal is usually preceded by the beating of a drum (naghara) and ringing of bells, as pilgrims raise their hands, start to skip steps standing at one place and gradually work into a trance as the beats get faster. As the beats get faster, rhythms change and the drum beats are accompanies by the playing of shehnai.
In fact such practices were not taught by the last prophet of Allah, Muhammad (peace be upon him). These are innovations in Shariah (God's Law).
The Prophet (peace be upon him) states, “The best speech is that which is embodied in the Book of Allah, the Al Quran; and the best guidance is the guidance given by me, Muhammad. The most evil affairs are the innovations ( bid'ah ), and every innovation ( bid'ah ) is an error”
God ordered Muslims not to divide themselves into sects. Innovations and divisions in matters of religion and worship within Islam are considered to be contamination, error, and deviation. Earlier heinous deviations from monotheism, such as worshipping creation, resulted in condemnation by God. (However, innovations in other matters, such as science and technology to improve life, are greatly encouraged.) God, The Most Compassionate, has told us through His last Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), when Muhammad (peace be upon him) was nearing the end of his life, that He had completed the religion of Islam. Muslims must recognize that any change in matters of worship is strictly forbidden. No change introduced by humankind, who is under the influence of Satan, could ever add anything positive and would only contribute to the degradation of the completed and perfected religion established by God. All innovations in matters of religion lead to straying, and all straying leads to hellfire. People must not allow any deviation (addition or deletion), even as small as one degree, in matters of worship. If any changes are allowed, those deviations will be compounded by future generations, and the result will be another man made religion, not the Islam as it was perfected by God, The Truth. To build a faith using a “shopping cart” approach or the blind following of any religious leader is inadmissible.
The changing of God’s laws is forbidden in Islam. God condemns religious leaders who alter divine principles. One who attempts to make changes places him or herself on the same level with God, committing polytheism. An example of this would be to make the killing of innocents lawful. The laws of God are perfect and do not need to be “modernized” by anyone. God allows us the freedom to obey or disobey Him by choosing to follow His faith or to follow our own desires. However, He forbids us to change His religious principles.
The spread of sama or dhamal among Sufi orders began sometime around the mid third/ninth century C.E. in Baghdad, eventually finding acceptance and favor in Persian, Turkish and Indian sub continent. The custom of sama evolved in practice over time as it complemented Sufi dhkir, whirling and among some orders dancing and a meal.

El palacio de Torremejía está ubicado en pleno casco histórico de Almagro. Ocupa toda una manzana, con una extensión total de unos 2.500 metros cuadrados construidos y distribuidos en dos plantas.
Destaca su patio principal, porticado con columnas isabelinas del siglo XV, y un segundo patio o corral, con entrada de carruajes desde la plaza, que antecedía al desaparecido hospital de la Cofradía de las Ánimas.
No se conoce con exactitud quien fue el promotor, constructor y primer propietario del palacio. Sí se tiene constancia de que el edificio se levantó en la segunda mitad del siglo XV, aunque con el paso de los años sufriría notables transformaciones.
Otros estudios procedentes de la Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, aseguran que el constructor de este palacio fue Marcos de la Madrid, otro judeoconverso, banquero de Carlos V, casado con Juana Rodríguez de Pisa, hija de García de Pisa. Esta relación con los Pisa justificaría también la presencia del escudo de esta familia en el patio principal del palacio.
Investigadores locales aseguran que el primer propietario de este palacio fue García de Pisa, un integrante de la poderosa familia de judeoconversos de los Pisa llegada a Almagro desde tierras gallegas, al amparo de los últimos maestres de Calatrava, cuya sede estaba en Almagro. En el capitel de unas de las columnas isabelinas del patio central se conserva un escudo con la imagen de un águila coronada, símbolo de los Pisa.
The Torremejía palace is located in the historic centre of Almagro. It occupies an entire block, with a total area of about 2,500 square metres built and distributed over two floors.
Its main courtyard stands out, with a portico with Isabelline columns from the 15th century, and a second courtyard or corral, with carriage entrance from the square, which preceded the now-defunct hospital of the Cofradía de las Ánimas.
It is not known exactly who was the promoter, builder and first owner of the palace. There is evidence that the building was built in the second half of the 15th century, although over the years it would undergo significant transformations.
Other studies from the University of Castilla-La Mancha claim that the builder of this palace was Marcos de la Madrid, another Jewish convert, banker of Charles V, married to Juana Rodríguez de Pisa, daughter of García de Pisa. This relationship with the Pisa would also justify the presence of the coat of arms of this family in the main courtyard of the palace.
Local researchers claim that the first owner of this palace was García de Pisa, a member of the powerful family of converted Jews of the Pisa family who arrived in Almagro from Galicia, under the protection of the last masters of Calatrava, whose headquarters were in Almagro. On the capital of one of the Isabelline columns in the central courtyard there is a shield with the image of a crowned eagle, the symbol of the Pisa family.

The Oosterschelde storm surge barrier (1976-1986)
The construction of the 9 kilometer long storm surge barrier the “Oosterscheldekering” is a complex and unique project. A structure of such enormous dimensions has never been built. The barrier consists of 65 pillars of 30 to 40 meters high and 62 sliders of 42 meters wide and 6 to 12 meters high. That makes the defense barrier (cost 2.5 billion euro) one of the most impressive hydraulic constructions in The Netherlands.
A lot of discussion precedes the construction of the barrier. At first, the plan is to close off the Oosterschelde with a solid dam. However, fishermen and nature conservationists revolt against this plan. The Oosterschelde is a unique nature reserve with more than 70 species of fish, 140 species of aquatic plants and algae and 350 species of benthic animals, which live on the sea bed. Building a solid dam would result in this nature reserve suffering irreparable damage.
Oosterschelde Open
Completely closing off the sea arm means the end of the salt water environment in the Oosterschelde and therefore also the cultivation of mussels and oysters. The protest – with the Oosterschelde Open as battle cry – does not fall on deaf ears. In 1975, the then Cabinet came up with the proposal to build an open barrier that could be closed by means of gates – if necessary.
A permeable barrier is much more expensive than a solid dam and thus the Cabinet’s proposal leads to fierce debates. In 1979 parliament approved the plan for the construction of the Oosterscheldekering.

Westerkerk (Dutch pronunciation: [ʋɛstərkɛrk]; English: Western Church) is a Reformed church within Dutch Protestant church in central Amsterdam in the Netherlands. It is next to Amsterdam's Jordaan district, on the bank of the Prinsengracht canal. The 'Westerkerk' was built between 1620 and 1631 in Renaissance style, built according to designs by architect Hendrick de Keyser (1565-1621). He is buried in the church he designed earlier: the 'Zuiderkerk'. The building of the Westerkerk was finished and completed by his son Pieter de Keyser (1595-1676) and inaugurated on June 8, 1631. The church has a length of 58 meters and a width of 29 meters. The high nave is flanked by the two lower aisles. The three-aisled basilica has a rectangular plan with two transepts of equal dimensions. As a result, the plan for this church was given the form of two Greek crosses connected with each other.[2] (a patriarchal cross).
Several older churches in Amsterdam, such as Oude Kerk and Nieuwe Kerk, were originally built before the Reformation and were converted to Protestantism during the Reformation in 1578. The Westerkerk was one of the first purposely built Protestant churches. The Noorderkerk and Zuiderkerk preceded the Westerkerk. Today the Westerkerk remains the largest church in the Netherlands that was built for Protestants, and is still in use by the PKN (Protestantse Kerk in Nederland).
Rembrandt van Rijn was buried somewhere under a tombstone in the Westerkerk[2] on October 8, 1669. The exact location of the grave is unknown; the number of his grave was lost. It was in a numbered 'kerkgraf' (grave owned by the church). There is a memorial marker on the north wall, made in 1909 after a model on the 'Nachtwacht'. After twenty years, his remains were taken away and destroyed. That was customary with the remains of poor people at that time. Rembrandt was buried as a poor man[2] Every year on his birthday anniversary the 15th of July he is remembered in the Westerkerk with a lunchtime concert with music from the time of Rembrandt's life and flowers are hung on his memorial marker. The inside of the organ shutters of the 'hoofdwerk' was painted by Gerard de Lairesse. On the left panel we see the dancing an playing King David in front of the Ark of covenant. On the right panel we see the queen of Sheba presenting gifts to King Solomon. Both stories in the old testament of the Bible. Gerard de Lairesse was born in Liège in French Belgium in 1640 and he moved to the Netherlands in 1664. In the second half of the 17th Century, he was one of the most popular painters in the Netherlands. The outside paintings of these panels or shutters were lost in the 19th century. The panels on the 'rugwerk' have paintings of old musical instruments on the inside and on the front side we see grisailles of the four evangelists with their items. The complete organ was re-painted in 1992 in its original state of color in 1686; most of it in marble imitation.

The majority of Derbians still hate this, personally I think it’s a vast improvement over the faux Art Deco clock and subterranean toilets that preceded it.
The lone gull on the top of the rings is a harbinger of a long, gloomy winter in my experience. Derby is around 80 miles from the sea and so to see gulls means their food supplies are more certain inland than on the coast.
With the see saw in the weather interspersed by the sheltering at home due to Coronavirus, this has been a very strange spring (preceded by an equally weird winter). When the year started, like many others, I thought this would be a special year in our life with a 20/20 clarity. But it appears that we don’t have 20/20. All of you stay safe and healthy, and help us to make as good a year as we can make it — still 7 months in this year.

It was a cold day, on February 1st, in 2020 at about 4.30 in the afternoon as the sun went down. I remember standing there, looking at the snowdrops and wondering if I would be coming back to see any more that year, as news of the virus was gathering pace, and soon, nothing would ever be the same again.
Covid has left its scars on our world, and continues to do so, and many would say that the isolation caused by the lockdowns to combat the virus that many endured [and that some still endure with necessary self-isolation] have been worse for people and their well- being than the virus itself.
Other events have left a domino effect in their wake, and none of us have been immune to those.
What can creative people do in the face of such terrible times in our world? We need to do what we always do; show our love, despair, anger, compassion and even humour in our work.
If we care we still need to reach out this way, show people that they are not alone, that we understand. Call it a responsibility if you like.
It is the least I can do. I hope other writers and photographers will feel the same. A beautiful photograph can brighten someone’s day. A compassionate piece of writing or poetry can help release emotion in someone who is struggling. Some things are felt rather than spoken, they are seen and remembered, stored away like a treasure in the mind.
Show you understand.
Is this world worth saving? I think so, if we can for a while longer. It is our home, before we journey on to the next, if that is your belief. How much better it would be if we could all leave peacefully.

Things you never thought you'd say in Vancouver but, as you can see from the very dry and straw-like grass in the foreground, we are (surprisingly) desperately in need of rain, and lots of it. In my 25 summers living here, I don't think I've known one so hot nor with such a sustained period of 'no rain' - two words that rarely go together in Vancouver unless preceded by, "Please tell me there's..."

Egalement appelé pont du diable est un pont fortifié du XIV ème siècle franchissant le Lot à l'ouest de Cahors. Il offre aujourd'hui, avec ses trois tours fortifiées et ses six arches précédées de becs aigus, un exemple de l'architecture de défense du Moyen-age. Il est classé au titre des monuments historiques par la liste de 1840 et depuis 1998 au patrimoine mondial de l'Unesco.
A long held belief is that Goldcrests hitch a ride on the backs of Woodcock or Short Eared Owls to enable them to migrate across the North Sea.
An old Yorkshire name for Goldcrest is 'Woodcock Pilot'. Although this may conjure up images of the Goldcrest sat on the Woodcock's back saying "left a bit , right a bit, straight on at the lighthouse"!, in fact it refers to the belief that a large fall of Goldcrests normally precedes a large fall of Woodcock approximately two days later.

The Yoshino cherry (Prunus x yedoensis) is a widely planted, beautiful flowering cherry tree native to Japan. It's known for its early spring bloom, featuring numerous small, single, blush-white to pale pink flowers that precede the foliage. The tree is also noted for its spreading habit and almond-like fragrance.

A Gust Front is the leading edge of the thunderstorm downdraft air. Most prominent beneath the rain-free base and on the leading edge of an approaching thunderstorm. Usually marked by gusty, cool winds. The shelf or roll cloud sometimes accompanies the gust front, especially when the gust front precedes a line of thunderstorms. Fondé en 1737 , il figure parmi les plus anciens opéras du monde encore en activité, le huitième de la série en Italie et donc précédé par quelques autres, et le premier théâtre italien à avoir créé une école de danse ; il précède le Teatro alla Scala de Milan de 41 ans et le Teatro La Fenice de Venise de 55 ans. German submarine U-995 is a Type VIIC/41 U-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine. She was laid down on 25 November 1942 by Blohm & Voss in Hamburg, Germany, and commissioned on 16 September 1943 with Oberleutnant zur See Walter Köhntopp in command.
German Type VIIC/41 submarines were preceded by the heavier Type VIIC submarines. U-995 had a displacement of 759 tonnes (747 long tons) when at the surface and 860 tonnes (850 long tons) while submerged.[1] She had a total length of 67.10 m (220 ft 2 in), a pressure hull length of 50.50 m (165 ft 8 in), a beam of 6.20 m (20 ft 4 in), a height of 9.60 m (31 ft 6 in), and a draught of 4.74 m (15 ft 7 in). The submarine was powered by two Germaniawerft F46 four-stroke, six-cylinder supercharged diesel engines producing a total of 2,800 to 3,200 metric horsepower (2,060 to 2,350 kW; 2,760 to 3,160 shp) for use while surfaced, two Brown, Boveri & Cie GG UB 720/8 double-acting electric motors producing a total of 750 metric horsepower (550 kW; 740 shp) for use while submerged. She had two shafts and two 1.23 m (4 ft) propellers. The boat was capable of operating at depths of up to 230 metres (750 ft).
The submarine had a maximum surface speed of 17.7 knots (32.8 km/h; 20.4 mph) and a maximum submerged speed of 7.6 knots (14.1 km/h; 8.7 mph).
When submerged, the boat could operate for 80 nautical miles (150 km; 92 mi) at 4 knots (7.4 km/h; 4.6 mph); when surfaced, she could travel 8,500 nautical miles (15,700 km; 9,800 mi) at 10 knots (19 km/h; 12 mph). U-995 was fitted with five 53.3 cm (21 in) torpedo tubes (four fitted at the bow and one at the stern), fourteen torpedoes, and three anti-aircraft guns. At the end of the war on 8 May 1945 she was stricken at Trondheim, Norway. She was surrendered to the British and then transferred to Norwegian ownership in October 1948. In December 1952 U995 became the Norwegian submarine Kaura and in 1965 she was stricken from service by the Royal Norwegian Navy. She then was offered to the German government for the ceremonial price of one Deutsche Mark. The offer was turned down; but the Boat was saved by the German Navy League, DMB, where she became a museum ship at Laboe Naval Memorial in October 1971.
Louis XI ordonne en 1465 de brûler et de raser Chaumont pour punir Pierre d'Amboise de s'être révolté contre le pouvoir royal lors de la « Ligue du Bien public ». Rentrée en grâce, la famille d'Amboise est autorisée à reconstruire le château.
C'est son fils Charles Ier d'Amboise qui l'entreprend de 1469 à 1481 en édifiant notamment l'aile nord, faisant face à la Loire, aujourd'hui disparue, et l'aile ouest, encore existante. La porte d'entrée précédée d'un double pont-levis est enserrée par deux grosses tours rondes, massives, dotées de mâchicoulis et de chemins de ronde. Contrairement à l'usage, le donjon central est abandonné au profit de la tour ouest, dite tour d'Amboise

Les Vieux Melays représentent un exemple type de manoir bourbonnais. Ils comprennent une maison d’habitation basse avec deux tours carrées, précédée d’une vaste cour, encadrée par les bâtiments des communs, la chapelle et le pigeonnier, et fermés par un remarquable portail posé sur des colonnes ioniques. Ils ont été contstruits en 1660-1670 en un seul tenant.
Exemple d’architecture rurale du XVII ème siècle en Bourbonnais, le château fut construit au début de ce siècle. La chapelle fut édifiée environ 100 ans plus tard. Un château de style néo Renaissance est construit en 1840 date à laquelle le petit corps de logis est laissé, par les propriétaires, aux fermiers et prend le nom de Vieux Melay. Le domaine comprend un petit château, ses dépendances agricoles et la chapelle, le tout clos par un mur avec portail. Le bâtiment ne présente qu’un seul niveau avec un rez-de-chaussée légèrement surélevé sur une cave. Les communs, perpendiculaires au logis, délimitent une cour rectangulaire. Au nord-est, se trouvent la grange et le pigeonnier, la chapelle est un édifice avec une nef prolongée par une abside en hémicycle, l’abside possède un cul de four orné de caissons en trompe l’oeil, le portail d’entrée est soutenu par 2 contreforts décorés d’ailerons à bossages vermiculés amortis par des pommes de pin.La porte est ornée de deux pilastres d’ordre toscan soutenant une architrave à trois fasces et un fronton curviligne mouluré, terminé à sa partie supérieure par un pot à feu posé sur des draperies.

The buff-crested bustard (Lophotis gindiana) is a species of bird in the Otididae family. It is found in Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
A small bustard of thick brush in dry country. The male has a buff crest that is usually hidden, and both sexes have a black belly. Found in dry savanna and thorn scrub habitat with lots of bushes, unlike most bustards, which prefer grass-dominated habitats.
Like the Black-bellied and Hartlaub’s Bustards, but smaller, and prefers different habitats. Larger than Little Brown Bustard, with a black belly. The call is a rising and accelerating series of distressed-sounding notes that often precede the display: a quick flight up, then a plummet to the ground. Wikipedia
Église Notre-Dame de l’Assomption. L’église de Crans est mentionnée dès 1145, lors de la fondation, dans le voisinage, de l’abbaye cistercienne de Chassagne. Elle dépendait alors de l’abbaye bénédictine d’Ambronay (prieuré de Chalamont). Au milieu du XIIIe s., elle était déclarée détruite (erma et diruta). Il faut croire qu’elle fut reconstruite peu après, car elle présente un choeur tout à fait caractéristique de l’architecture cistercienne de la fin du XIIIe siècle. Elle figure d’ailleurs dans le testament de Gérard de La Plaud qui, en 1299, fit un legs pour son « œuvre » (operi), c’est-à-dire pour ses travaux de gros œuvre. Le clocher a été détruit sous la Révolution; il n’en reste que la souche, sur la travée de chœur ; il a été remplacé par un petit clocheton de bois. La Révolution est aussi responsable de la disparition d’une partie de la sculpture. Les archives ne mentionnent pas de transformations importantes de cette église au XIXe siècle. Il y avait cependant des projets de voûter la nef et d’abattre la chapelle nord pour la remplacer par un transept (vers 1860). La façade ouest est précédée par une galonnière. Le portail est particulièrement remarquable par son tympan sculpté qui représente une Vierge à !’Enfant assise, s’inscrivant dans un trilobe, et environnée d’une dizaine d’anges. La voussure extérieure, en tiers-point, est ornée de feuilles, et, à la pointe, d’un agneau. La nef est couverte d’une charpente à rampants lambrissés et entraits engoulés, ce qui est un cas unique dans le département de l’Ain. Cette charpente passe pour avoir été entièrement faite à la fin du XIXe s., mais, en 1613, la nef était déjà couverte « d’un lambressis fait en voûte ». La travée de chœur est voûtée sur croisée d’ogives avec clef ornée d’une « tête de feuilles ». L’abside, à chevet plat, est couverte de même, les branches d’ogives portant sur des culots ornés aussi de têtes de feuilles. Le mur absidial est percé de trois fenêtres étroites, celle du milieu plus haute ; on rattache cette disposition à la tradition cistercienne. La porte latérale sud de la nef donnant sur l’extérieur est ornée d’un tympan trilobé montrant une main bénissante entourée de deux animaux symboliques. Ce portail semble contemporain de celui de la façade ouest (fin XIIIe – début XIVe siècle). Sur le côté sud de la travée de chœur, s’ouvre la chapelle Notre- Dame fondée en 1425 par le curé de Bourg Pierre Balandrin, sous le vocable de Notre-Dame. Les branches d’ogives sont simplement chanfreinées et la fenêtre est sans remplage. Une inscription latine commémore cette fondation : Anno Domini Millesimo quatercentesimo vigesimo octavo Dominus Johannes Ballandrini curatus Burgi in Bressia fecit fieri hanc capellam in honorem Beate Marie Virginis ipsamqu e dotavit pro quatuor missis in eadem singulis hebdomadis perpetuo celebrandis. Sur le côté nord de la nef, s’ouvre la chapelle Saint -Jean-Baptiste-et-Saint- Jérôme, construite en 1516 par Béraud du Molard, curé de Crans et premier doyen du chapitre de Meximieux. Cette chapelle comprend deux travées voûtées sur croisées d’ogives; la clef de la travée ouest est ornée d’un écusson frappé d’une croix (de Savoie ?) et celle de l’ouest, de trois clous. Les fenêtres sont à remplages flamboyants. L’église renferme plusieurs statues anciennes : Vierge à !’Enfant, saint Jérôme et saint Jean-Baptiste, en pierre polychrome, sainte Apollonie et sainte Catherine en bois polychrome. Le maître - autel est surmonté d’un retable en bois doré avec colonnes torses du milieu du XVIIe siècle. Autels du XVIIIe s. dans les chapelles. La Sauvegarde de l’Art français a accordé 120 000 Fen 1999 pour la remise en état de la charpente et de la couverture.

Précédée d'un perron ouvragé, la façade, surmontée d'un pignon à redans, s'ouvre par de hautes baies en anse de panier. A droite la halle, du 14e s., dont la façade de brique est striée de bandes de pierre blanche.
Built under Charles V in 1530, this town hall is a charming building straddling the Gothic and the Renaissance. Preceded by an ornate staircase, the facade, surmounted by a stepped gable, opens with high basket-handle bay windows. On the right, the 14C market hall, whose brick facade is streaked with bands of white stone.
Per costruirla Guarino Guarini fu chiamato a Torino nel 1666 dal proprio ordine dei Teatini, che aveva avuto in dono dai duchi il prestigioso lotto di terreno affacciato sulla piazza castello, sull'angolo del taglio della "contrada nova vitozziana" di via Palazzo di Città. Sul piccolo lotto Guarini impostò una architettura statisticamente e morfologicamente prodigiosa a pianta centrale con lati concavi - convessi, alto tamburo a volta ad arconi intrecciati che filtra la luce con effetto spettacolare.
La decorazione interna è in marmi policromi.
La chiesa è preceduta dall'Oratorio dell'Addolorata nello spazio originario a portico. La facciata barocca testimoniata dalla incisione dei "Dissegni di architettura civile ed ecclesiastica" dello stesso Guarini, non fu costruita, prevalendo la norma urbanistica ducale della uniformità architettonica voluta per la piazza.

To build it Guarino Guarini was called to Turin in 1666 by his own order of the Theatines, who had been given the prestigious plot of land overlooking the piazza castello, on the corner of the "contrada nova vitozziana" in via Palazzo di Città as a gift from the dukes. On the small lot Guarini set a statistically and morphologically prodigious architecture with a central plan with concave - convex sides, a high vaulted drum with interwoven arches that filters the light with a spectacular effect.
The internal decoration is in polychrome marble.
The church is preceded by the Oratory of the Addolorata in the original porticoed space. The Baroque façade, testified by the engraving of Guarini's "Drawings of civil and ecclesiastical architecture", was not built, prevailing the ducal urban planning norm of the architectural uniformity desired for the square.
The Crambus pascuella caterpillar is a brownish-grey, dark-headed larva that feeds on the roots and stems of grasses, particularly in the Poa genus. It lives in a silken tube or tent on the ground and has a distinctive appearance with a brownish-grey body, darker front parts, and an orange head. Its other features include large, plate-like brownish-grey pinacula (dark spots) and black spiracles. Crambus pascuella is a species of moth of the family Crambidae. It is found in Europe and Asia Minor.
The wingspan is 20–24 mm. The forewings with apex triangularly produced; brownish - ochreous, posteriorly with whitish blackish - edged interneural streaks; a white dorsal streak; a broad shining white median longitudinal streak, reaching costa towards base, narrowed posteriorly, where it is cut by an oblique dark line, not passing second line; second line angulated, silvery-white, dark-edged anteriorly, preceded by a white costal spot and followed by a V - shaped mark; some black terminal longitudinal marks; cilia metallic. Hindwings are grey, more whitish dorsally.
The moth flies from May to September depending on the location.
The larvae feed on various grasses, especially Poa species
A tiny little Mush Mallow seed pod in the late Autumn afternoon light. The seed pods of so many flowering plants & trees are absolutely as beautiful as the flowers which precede them.
2-3 inches of rain are in the forecast for us today. Too late to save the Fall foliage colors for this year, but really important for the root systems of all the perennial plants as we head towards frozen ground and Winter.
I love the magical glow that precedes sunrise. It is worth getting up at 3am and snowshoeing almost three hours to one of the best vantage points in the area to get the shot. The hike in the darkness was rather nice, it was only a few degrees below zero. But when I arrived on my spot, the wind had picked up and rattled at my tripod and camera. Despite using my cable release and stabilising the tripod with my backpack, most of my pictures are not sharp which is a bit frustrating. Using a long lens might not have helped matters. Still, some of the shots turned out acceptably sharp. This is one of them.

Taken for the sky above on our walk today...THE BLUE IN THE SKY IS ALL CLOUDS - there is no clear blue sky here at all. It is actually all layers of clouds and we thought would develop into the thunderstorm that was forecast but we didn’t get caught in any rain although it was thundering as we walked. The colours may appear saturated- they are not it was strange light that comes preceded a storm...
This is the most southerly of three closely spaced windmills on the hills overlooking the Trent valley, and although correctly Shelford Mill, is also referred to as Newton Mill, as it is significantly closer to that village. It's the smallest of the three and the only one that has become derelict.
It was a post mill with a timber superstructure, and last worked around 1918. The superstructure inevitably became progressively derelict and was demolished in 1950 or 1951. Damage to brickwork which can be seen in contemporary views has since been repaired. A picture of the mill in 1906 can be found in Wikimedia Commons
Je suis sûr que si vous ne connaissez pas ce village, en réalité vous le connaissez ! Souvenez-vous du film Manon des Sources avec Yves Montand, Daniel Auteuil et Emmanuelle Béart ... c'est à cet endroit que la Delphine parle au Papet et lui avoue que le bossu était son fils. Ils sont assis sur un banc en pierre, sous les platanes, devant la petite église romane ... celle de Vaugines.
L’église Saint-Barthélemy est à l’origine une chapelle du XIe siècle consacrée au Saint Sauveur et appartenant à l’abbaye de Psalmodi, près de Nîmes. Elle a été agrandie et élevée au rang de paroisse au XIIIe siècle, lorsque le village s’est constitué sur les hauteurs.
D’abord dédiée à saint Pierre, elle devient définitivement Saint-Barthélemy au XVIe siècle. C’est un édifice massif et sévère, comme le sont les églises du Luberon, caractérisé par un escalier extérieur qui conduit au clocher et séparé des vergers voisins par un muret de pierre. Sa façade austère, percée d’une porte en plein centre surmontée d’une modeste rosace est précédée d’une esplanade ombragée.
I love Halloween. A single day devoted to celebrating darkness and scary things. But that day is preceded by a month-long build-up when all sorts of ghostly yard displays begin to pop up in the neighborhood. Some of them show wonderful creativity while others look more like someone going through the motions. As I drive (or walk) this time of year my eye is constantly being pulled this way and that taking in the displays. I often stop to photograph the most imaginative. My personal preference is pseudo realism but without the blood and gore often seen when people get carried away. But for me the best of the season is not decorated yards and houses. It's those houses that exhibit a sense of eerie darkness all year round. These places need no decorations. Their presence is felt the moment you see them. I'm drawn to places like this and never seem to outgrown the fascination. Autumn days greatly enhance the look of these structures; as leaves fly and shadows length, it takes very little imagination to sense fear and trepidation. This house is one of my local favorites and it never disappoints.

La Fontana di Trevi è la mostra Terminale dell'Acqua Vergine ,voluta da Noccolò V nel 1453 .Clemente XII ne affidò la costruzione a Nicola Salvi ( 1732-62 ) riuscendo a un capolavoro Barocco che fonde fascinosamente scultura e architettura . . Il complesso architettonico si addossa a Palazzo Poli con una composizione di libera ispirazione Berniana e marina . Sotto il grande attico con balaustra e figure allegoriche ,ornate dallo stemma di papa Clemente XII ,avanza dal nicchione centrale la statua di Oceano ( Pietro Bracci 1759-62 ) ,su un cocchio a forma di conchiglia trainato da cavalli marini preceduti da Tritoni che si levano dagli scogli .L'affiancano nelle nicchie laterali le statue della Salubrità ( sormontata dalla Vergine che indica la sorgente ai soldati ( Andrea Bergondi ) e dell'Abbondanza ( sopra la quale Agrippa approva il disegno dell'acquedotto ) opere entrambi di Andrea della Valle n.Il bagno di Anita Ekberg e Marcello Mastroianni nella Fontana di Trevi ( La Dolce vita ,1960 ) ,ha consegnato questo splendido teatro d'acque all'immaginario cinematografico di tutto il mondo .
The Trevi Fountain is the terminal exhibition of the Virgin Water commissioned by pope Nicholas V in 1453 . Pope Clement XII entrusted its construction to Nicola Salvi (1732-62 ) succeeding in a Baroque Masterpiece that fascinatingly fuses sculpture and architecture .The sculptural complex leans against Palazzo Poli with a composition of free Bernese and marine inspiration. Under the great penthouse ,with balustrade and allegorical figures ,decorated with Coats and Arms of pope Clement XII . .The large statue Oceanus( Pietro Bracci 1759-62 ) on the shell shaped chariot pulled by sea horses preceded by tritons advances from the central niche that rise from the rocks .The statue of healthiness ( surmounted by the Virgin that indicates the source to the soldiers ,by Andrea Bergondi ) and Abundance ( above which Agrippa approves the design of the aqueduct ) work side by side in the side niches Andrea Della Valle .The bathroom of Anita Eckberg and Marcello Mastroianni in Trevi Fountain ( La Dolce Vita 1960 ) has presented this splendid water Theater to the cinematographic imagery of the whole world .
This started out life as an in-camera multiple exposure of three ICMs all of the same bland subject: a Cotswold stone wall. The ICMs used three different swipe directions: vertical and both diagonals. The blend mode in the camera was Darken which produces the weaving line effect.
And then (being Sliders Sunday) I took the original colours in the image and zapped them. Al little help from Nik Color Efex followed to introduce a bit of an overall colour gradient and bring out the colours. There was a slight blur vignetted too…
I’ll post a link to an image showing the in-camera original and the three ICMs that preceded it and were blended by the camera. They are all rather dark and gloomy with very unsaturated colour… but that’s only a challenge!

Le pont Valentré (en occitan pont de Balandras), également appelé pont du Diable, est un pont fortifié du xive siècle franchissant le Lot à l'ouest de Cahors, en France. Il offre aujourd'hui, avec ses trois tours fortifiées et ses six arches précédées de becs aigus, un exemple de l'architecture de défense du Moyen Âge.
Le pont Valentré est classé au titre des monuments historiques par la liste de 1840 et depuis 1998 au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO, au titre des chemins de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle en France. Depuis 2012, avec le viaduc de Millau, le pont du Gard, le pont du Diable et le viaduc de Garabit, il fait partie des ponts remarquables du Sud de la France.
Construit aux temps des guerres franco-anglaises, le pont Valentré, par lequel on pénètre, mais seulement à pied, toujours dans la ville de Cahors, constitue un exemple rare d'architecture militaire française de cette époque, et l'un des plus beaux ponts médiévaux fortifiés subsistant encore.
Il fut décidé par les consuls de la ville en 1306, et la première pierre fut posée le 17 juin 1308. Il avait une fonction de forteresse, destinée à défendre la ville contre les attaques en provenance du sud. Toutefois, ni les Anglais, ni Henri IV ne l'attaquèrent.
La construction pouvait entraîner la création d'un second axe commercial est-ouest, qui était jusqu'alors nord-sud. La ville subit ainsi une importante modification qui allait se répercuter sur toute la cité. Le pont était protégé spirituellement par une chapelle dédiée à la Vierge dans le châtelet occidental.
Il fut achevé en 1378, son aspect initial a été sensiblement modifié au cours des travaux de restauration entrepris en 1879. En 1930, il est mentionné d'être dans un parfait état de conservation, lors de la parution d'un guide touristique.
Il est situé sur la Via Podiensis du pèlerinage de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle et sur le sentier de randonnée GR 36.
En dos-d'âne, long de 138 mètres, avec six grandes arches ogivales gothiques de 16,50 mètres, ce pont est flanqué d'avant-becs crénelés et surmonté de trois tours carrées à créneaux et mâchicoulis dominant l'eau de 40 mètres. Deux barbacanes protégeaient son accès, mais seule celle du côté de la ville (à l'Est) a été conservée.

In 1526, the city authorities decided to proceed with the construction of a new town hall and sent a delegation to Mechelen to contact Rombout II Keldermans.
The building was designed by the latter and Laureys Keldermans.

La façade est d’allure massive et sévère, formant un bloc compact entre les deux grosses tours normandes, avec des fenêtres à meneaux. Les flèches pyramidales qui les surmontent sont du XVe siècle. Elles sont différentes : l’une est de plan carré et entourée de merlons en forme de flammes (symbolisant l’autorité de la mitre papale), l’autre est de plan octogonal, avec des merlons gibelins (symbolisant le pouvoir royal et temporel).
Le portique du XVe siècle compte trois arches, avec une Porte Royale de marbre finement décoré.
The cathedral is preceded by a square, which replaced an old cemetery.
The facade has a massive and severe appearance, forming a compact block between the two large Norman towers, with mullioned windows. The pyramidal spiers which surmount them are from the 15th century. They are different: one is square in plan and surrounded by flame-shaped merlons (symbolizing the authority of the papal miter), the other is octagonal in plan, with Ghibelline merlons (symbolizing royal and temporal power) .
The 15th century portico has three arches, with a finely decorated marble Royal Door.
