Dungeness Lighthouse on the Dungeness Headland started operation on 20 November 1961. Its construction was prompted by the building of Dungeness nuclear power station, which obscured the light of its predecessor (dating from 1904) which, though decommissioned, remains standing. The new lighthouse (the fifth on the site) is constructed of precast concrete rings; its pattern of black and white bands is impregnated into the concrete. It remains in use today, monitored and controlled from the Trinity House Operations and Planning Centre at Harwich, Essex.[3]

Hear you breath

To me it's all i can speak

All I need

The lights are on

Afraid to run

It helps to see

It's all that's meant to be

You make me drown

We're starting a fire, but you're going to burn me down

When the flame builds up you're the one to make the sound

Hear you breath

To me it's all i can speak

This is day two of our exploration of the buildings that surround the city square, known as "Central Park," in the heart of Jacksonville's business district. The square and surrounding buildings forms the heart of the Jacksonville Downtown Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 2018.

Our first post looked toward the east at the south side of the square. This view looks toward the west at the south side of the square, known formally as S. Central Park Plaza.

The type of square layout in Jacksonville is known as the Four-Block Square. In addition to streets running along the four sides of Jacksonville's square, two other streets enter the square at midpoint from the north and the south (Main Street), and from the east and west (State Street).

The twelve buildings shown in this view were constructed between 1860 and 1892, and all but one of them are contributing properties in the historic district. The architectural style of the buildings is predominantly Italianate and Late 19th-Century Commercial. One notable exception is the three-story Richardsonian Romanesque-style building seen to our left on the southwest corner of S. Central Park Plaza and S. Mauvaisterre St.

Of the five buildings on the east half of S. Central Park Plaza (east of S. Main St), all have had their ground floor exterior appearances modernized, and two of the buildings have seen their facades completely changed. 45-47 S. Central Park Plaza, constructed in 1890, has seen its upper facade completely refaced with porcelain-enameled steel panels in two shades of green. The same dark green panels also frame the lower façade’s metal framed glass store front.

Also constructed in 1890 is the building next door at 39 S. Central Park Plaza. The upper façade has been framed with precast stone and maroon porcelain-enameled steel panels. The lower façade is also framed with porcelain-enameled steel panels (side and spandrels). Despite the alterations, all five buildings are listed in the National Register as being contributing properties in the historic district.

Located in West Central Illinois, thirty-five miles west of the State Capitol in Springfield, Jacksonville is the seat of Morgan County. The population of the city at the 2020 census was 18,267.

I had posted an at image at dusk of the northern face of the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts a few weeks ago, this one taken at night also of the northern face show how the lighting on the silvery segmented stainless steel and acid etched limestone colored precast perpendicular concrete walls create an other-worldly look. The Kauffman Center for Performing Arts is actually two venues, a 1600 seat concert venue designed by a collaboration of Moshe Safdie and the eminent Japanese acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota and an 1800 seat horseshoe configured hall for ballet, opera and theater. The colors that are reflected on the surfaces can change, for example while the Kansas City Chiefs made their 2023 Super Bowl run this year and after their thrilling victory, it was lit in Chief’s Red in a show of support. #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @mpbcom @kehcamera @panasonic @lumix #microfourthirds #lumixlx100ii @visitkc

The Narrows Bridge is a freeway and railway crossing of the Swan River in Perth, Western Australia.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narrows_Bridge_(Perth)

Made up of two road bridges and a railway bridge constructed at a part of the river known as the Narrows, located between Mill Point and Point Lewis, it connects the Mitchell and Kwinana Freeways, linking the city's northern and southern suburbs. The original road bridge was opened in 1959 and was the largest precast prestressed concrete bridge in the world. Construction of the northern interchange for this bridge necessitated the reclamation of a large amount of land from the river.

The bridge formed part of the Kwinana Freeway which originally ran for only 2.4 miles (3.9 km) to Canning Bridge. Over the following decades, the freeway system was expanded to the north and south, greatly increasing the volume of traffic using the bridge. As a result, in 2001, a second road bridge was opened to the west of the original bridge, and in 2005, the railway bridge was constructed in the gap between the two traffic bridges. Passenger trains first traversed the Narrows in 2007 with the opening of the Mandurah railway line.

The upper floors are clad in precast concrete panels in a classic unfinished grey. The window surrounds protrude slightly and the glass is highly reflective with a copper hue. These elements all combine well to give that space age as envisaged in the 70s look.

It'll never be the same here again... but that's a wonderful thing! Several weeks after it appeared that mobilization had begun on the Ottumwa Amtrak station and platform renovation project, this week contractors actually started the deconstruction process.

Presumably, they took down the electrical/lights on the northeast quadrant and installed a temporary bypass on Monday. Yesterday, they started removing the canopy crossmembers. Today they chopped down the canopy supports. They'll take these offsite, chop off the bottom foot, sandblast them, weld a plate to the bottom, and paint them before bringing them back onsite to reinstall.

The platforms will be ripped up and replaced with precast panels and north-side fencing. The south side platform will be cut in half for better ease of maintenance on M1. The tracks will be ripped out through the platform, undercut, drainage installed, and put back. Sidewalks and enhanced crossings will be installed for ADA compliance. Some upgrades to the signage, waiting room, and bathrooms are also planned. This likely is a one-day-only view.
