Since May 2020, a new suburban train with a total of six coaches has been running through Berlin and Brandenburg with colorful stickers, greeting its future passengers with slogans such as: "It's me - your new one" or "I'm still in the trial period". The endurance test is designed for 40,000 kilometers with a planned daily mileage of 800 to 1,000 kilometers. As can be seen here, for example, the #NeueSBahn pre-series vehicle 484 003A.

All the bags / racks I looked upon and field tested the last months. A comprehensive article on my impressions and assessment just went online last weekend. Find the link (article is in German) here:

torstenfrank.wordpress.com/2021/03/27/seatpack-alternativ...

I looked at:

The @ortlieb_waterproof Gravel-Pack (in conjunction with the @hebie_tubus_racktime) (1st photo)

The @vaudesport Aqua Front Light (in conjunction with the @hebie_tubus_racktime) (2nd photo)

The @tailfin SL 22 Panniers (with the X Series Pannier Rack) (3rd photo)

The @tailfin Aeropack S (with the Alloy Arch) (4th photo)

and the @tailfin Aeropack S (with the Carbon Arch, and the extended Seatpost Connector) (5th photo)

And another set of bags of my rear cargo solutions overview and test with focus on #fastfar purposes. The Ortlieb Gravel-Pack. Quite the nicely manufactured and tidy looking compact pannier set. I just wish it would be at least 4 cm less wide, leading to an overall smaller footprint of the bike. Either by going a bit lower in volume (it’s 25 l for the pair and a bit smaller would be totally fine in my book) or by enlarging the length a bit to compensate. But that maybe just me and you can find it totally fine the way it is. You decide.

Mind the curve!

Was working on the second part of my article mini-series on backside bike-packing alternatives. This will be the in-depth comparison of the Vaude Aqua Front Light, the Ortlieb Gravel-Pack (each in combination with the Tubus Airy titanium rack) and the Tailfin AeroPack as well as the Tailfin Superlight Panniers. So 3 panniers and one integrated trunkbag solution. The first part is already online and you can find the link as always in the bio (article in German).

Here are the Vaude panniers which I used for 6 days and 800 km bikepacking across the Harz region in Germany last autumn. A very convenient way of transporting repair kit, clothing and of course the usual supermarket food hauls. :)

You'll find the article here (in German): torstenfrank.wordpress.com/2021/03/27/seatpack-alternativ...

Is it a bellows? Is it a concertina? No - it’s Super-Tailfin! Err… you know the drill around here. Presenting insights or just my opinions but always, always, always with a twinkle in my eye. Because life’s too short to be dead serious. All the more when cycling is involved! 😀

So here’s a look at the very spacious and very finely manufactured Tailfin Aeropack with the alloy arch on my Drifter.
