The Konza Prairie can be quite spectacular after the rolling hills have been burned and spring has provided plenty of rain. This is one of my favorite drives in the area. I barely made it to this area in time for the sunset.
This image was primarily intended to test out a particular technique of simulating a split ND filter from two images at different exposures. I'm open to critical feedback on this.
I can't believe I use to shoot with a Rebel XT! This particular shot was from almost 11 years ago a week before I took my first clients there, spending as much time as I could learning the roads.
The sky at the farmstead home overlooking Pelican Pond, well east of Pondmont, Colorado came around to the best it would be that morning and here it is. The area here provides a great view, especially if there is a tremendous sky at the same time. We shot pictures while the sky stayed interesting.
I bet that just like Pella Ponds, you can get out here with your spinning gear and fall asleep while dangling feets and lures, depending upon what interests the fish more. It's almost time to get upstream into the Rockies with fly fishing gear this spring. That's where brilliant days are filled with the real skilled and interactive fishing can be found.
The day tapped us out while it was still morning after all the road tripping and scurrying around. Even eDDie got tapped out. Clouds were starting to stream in from the divide and punch up the afternoon sky after a mid-day crash. Time to bail again!
Could there ever be enough gravel pits in the valley to go around? Signs that abound Higiene roads demand an end to St. Vrain gravel mining.
Photography from a flight over the North American prairies: the journey was from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan into the province of Alberta. A snow-covered landscape shows an interplay of light and shadows.
Potentially my favorite shot of the summer :)
Male Praire Warbler (Setophaga discolor). I never did find this guy's nest (his lady was very shy) but I suspect it was close since he was quite territorial.

Eastbound BN train rolls through Prairie du Chein, WI on September 16, 1990. Led by one of the leased GE LMX B39-8 units (nicknamed "sharks") and a BN-unique cabless B30-7A...first out are two business cars followed by a aircraft fuselage transport car returning empty from Boeing in Seattle.

Try to imagine events that led owners to abandon this house. Feels like a mystery to me. I tried to play with titles and descriptions like: "Once he went to work ... and never came back again", or "She left him ... with Kirby vacuum salesman". But when I posted it, the stories were so distracting that I could not focus on the photo.
Sometimes titles are almost as much fun as taking pictures.
