Tonight the teams of the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship 2007 paraded through the streets of Kingston, led by a mounted police woman and motorbike outriders, bearing their country's national flag. The parade culminated in an official opening ceremony where, in a symbolic gesture, a representative from each country emptied a vial of water brought with them from their home sailing waters into a large ceremonial vase.
The Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship 2007 is taking place from 12 - 21 July at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Their are 222 competitors from 50 nations taking part. Volvo are the title sponsor of the event, which is run by ISAF and encompasses single-handed Laser (boys) and Laser Radial (girls), the double-handed 29er (boys and girls), the RS:X windsurfer (boys and girls), and multihull Hobie 16 (open) classes in this world class event.
