Last days of coal and oil-fired power generation before Didcot A Power Station closes. Gas-powered Didcot B continues, but does not use the cooling towers. No more steam!
Phase 2 of the project will construct, operate and maintain a 21 MW solar power plant in Likupang (North Sulawesi) and three 7 MW solar power plants, in Pringgabaya, Selong, and Sengkol (Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara).

The Weatherford Wind Energy Center is a 147-megawatt facility. It is owned and operated by FPL Energy. PSO purchases all of the output under a long-term contract.
During the late 1970's I was fortunate to visit the Kingston Power Station in Down Hall Road Kingston-Upon-Thames. This fine power station was due to be demolished and was closed in October 1980. It was opened in 1948 by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.
The pictures show the interior, control desk, the coal conveyor, one of the chimneys and Kingston coat of arms on the lead rainwater down pipes. [A great deal of thought and care went into the construction of this fine building.] A rooftop view of Kingston with Bentalls store can be seen in the picture.
All no more and another cathedral to electric power gone for ever.
Sempra Energy's El Dorado Combined Cycle Power Plant, producing 480 megawatts, mostly from natural gas, near El Dorado, southwest of Hoover Dam, and south of Las Vegas. That's about a quarter of the top capacity of Hoover Dam. Ten megawatts is from solar.
These 15 wind turbines(called Vestas NM82) provide a total of almost 25 MW of power and is part of the Luzon Island grid in the Philippines. Height of these windmills is 70 meters. Each of the three blades has a length of 41 meters. The wind swept area of the rotors is approximately 5,280 square meters.
Location of this turbines is at Pebble Beach, in the shores of Bangui Bay, Ilocos Norte province. This turbines is the first power plant of its kind in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.

Los Angeles Water & Power owns the majority shares of the IPP plant, and while they pretend that IPP is independent in the company's brochures and literature, LAWP's name and logo appear everywhere, including former Nevada Northern Railway 401. The factory paint has held up shockingly well over the locomotive's existence. They just don't make them like they used to!

The Paiton power generation complex is a group of several modern coal fired power plants in Java (Indonesia)
This is the reserve of coal for the power plants, with the conveyor belts. The coal is delivered by ship.
All too often we tend to forget that our electricity is not such a "clean" energy.: Most of it comes from power plants just like this one, burning fossil fuel and releasing huge amount of CO2 in our atmosphere.

A view of inside the Flinton powerhouse on the Skootamatta River looking west towards the river. Flinton (formerly named Flint's Mills) was founded by Billa Flint (1805-1894) to house his employees of his many enterprises. This mill provided enough power for the entire community.
Notice how the concrete walls were constructed- in layers approximately 8" wide with wood form boards. You can still see the wood grain in the layers of concrete. Construction date unknown but in the 1800s. Billa Flint was a Member of the Senate of Canada 1867-1894.

Dad and I recently went for another visit - on a brilliantly bright day - to Whitelee Wind Farm, the largest onshore wind farm in the British Isles (covering some 55 square kilometres of moorland just southwest of Glasgow).
There are some 215 of these enormous Siemens wind turbines, which stand some 65 metres tall (110 metres if you include the rotors at full height arc), and those enormous blades create a rotor diameter of 93 metres. Quite staggering to stand right underneath one as the blades turn in slow rhythm above your head, whooomp, whooomp, whooomp...
Very impressive bits of kit when you get right up close, and as the moorland just south of Glasgow (near Eaglesham village, where, famously, Rudolph Hess bailed out on his bizarre mission during the Second World War) has had some 90km of looping paths and tracks for walkers (and their dogs!), cyclists and horse riders to enjoy - the turbines go right out of site, covering such a large area. Glasgow Science Centre runs an annexe here, providing the visitor centre, especially good for letting younger visitors fiddle with things to learn what's going on.
From left, Jamie Holt, power plant specialist, and Jamie James, project manager, stand atop U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District’s Barkley Hydropower Plant Unit 1 generator during a 72-hour run Nov. 5, 2013 at Kuttawa, Ky. The unit suffered a phase-to-ground fault resulting in a fire that damaged the generator wirings in December 2010. Repair work began Aug. 16, 2012 when contractor employees lifted the 270-ton rotor assembly from the unit by crane and placed it on a nearby pedestal for repair by National Electric Coil from Columbus, Ohio. Barring unforeseen problems, the 32.5 Megawatt generator is scheduled to be placed back in service Nov. 18, 2013. (USACE photo by Fred Tucker)

This is the Yorktown Power Station, located off Waterview Road in Yorktown, VA. The Yorktown Power Station is owned and operated by Dominion Virginia Power.
In recent years, there has been talk about shutting down this power station due to the amount of cost it would take to retrofit this station to comply with modern standards. The station may be closed 2015 due to new environmental policies; however, Dominion Virginia Power has asked for an extension to keep the station running until at least 2016. Atom Smasher. Experiments to investigate atoms and atomic particles require huge pieces of equipment. This is one section of an accelerator used at the Univ of Edinburgh from 1950. This portion produced a very high voltage. This type of circuit was used by John Cockcroft & Ernest Walton in 1932.
