Alex got us to reflash his Version 8 STI a while ago but was still wanting more power.
This time around we fitted our Stage 3 upgrade package consisting of:
- HKS GT28RS turbo kit
- ID1000 injectors
- HKS Super Powerflow Intake kit
- Walbro in-tank pump
- Front mount intercooler kit
- Turbosmart Eboost Street boost controller
Chris hit the dyno to dial in the tune and came away with a staggering 274 kW at the wheels at 22 psi boost! All of this was achieved with the standard engine and the stock ECU.

The two chassis stalled for a bit (five months!) whilst I pondered how to reduce the sideplay in the wheelsets. In the end, the simplest solution was to use small squares of brass shim, 0.13mm for Blanche and 0.2mm for Linda, soldered to the main frames between the main frames and dummy frames - four shims per loco. For this, a special clamp was made from a hairgrip, Frys Powerflow flux and 145 solder was used. This was slightly tense but worked out perfectly!
