ARNHEM – In een zee van kleuren is vrijdagmiddag in het Nederlands Openluchtmuseum het familieproject Feest van start gegaan. Kinderen mochten elkaar met kleurenpoeder bestrooien, zoals dat in sommige Oosterse religies gebeurt. Het project Feest heeft als doel kinderen en ouders kennis te laten maken met de 55 feesten, waarvan 30 christelijke, die we in ons land kennen. Veel aandacht is er ook voor het eten en drinken tijdens die feesten. In september start hierover bovendien een educatief programma voor leerlingen van het basisonderwijs.
Just by coïncidence I came into contact with a Dutch photographer, who has been making powder flash photos of people on weddings, celebrations and other special occasions. He had a mobile development kit and offered a one hour photo service for his clients. He stopped this phographic work a couple of years ago, but I think he did a phantastic job with his Camera-Obscura Magic .
today, my season pass at Stowe lost its virginity - the foot deep powder was just the enticement i needed to give riding another chance.
Riding was really good today (duh) but it was more than the awesome conditions (ok, epic!) - my snowboard was perfectly tuned because i gave up on riding last year right after a tuning. Last season, i found riding lost its fun - hard to ride the trees with tears in your eyes and sorrow in your heart. Today was completely different - I literally danced down the slopes thinking about her and our weekend. Oh what a year makes.

Approx. 1mL of strontium carbonate, 1mL of sulfur, about 1mL sodium nitrate, 1mL of sugar and about 0.01mL of manganese carbonate was ground together and placed on top of a piece of chalcedony. It was ignited with a match and immediately burst into bright yellow flame which burned for a couple of seconds. This resulted in a hard grey melted substance that was quite luminescent.
This mixture was named "Gorn Powder" in reference to a Star Trek episode wherein an alien (the Gorn) was defeated using a mixture of a nitrate, sulfur and carbon (aka "black powder").
