After the cremation of my youngest sister, we all received a litttle bag of sunflower seeds. Around her birthday at the end of March, we planted the seeds in pots, and now we have a small patch of sunflowers. I'm having a hard time getting the entire patch in a photo; I will try again with a different lens.

Na de crematie van mijn zusje kregen we allemaal een zakje zonnebloemzaadjes, rond haar verjaardag eind maart hebben wij de zaadjes in potjes voorgezaaid, inmiddels hebben wij een klein veldje zonnebloemen. Het lukt mij niet goed om het hele veldje op de foto te krijgen, ik zal het nog eens proberen met een andere lens.

A sunburst is a design or figure commonly used in architectural ornaments and design patterns. It consists of rays or "beams" radiating out from a central disk in the manner of sunbeams. Sometimes part of a sunburst, a semicircular or semi-elliptical shape, is used.
Traditional sunburst motifs usually show the rays narrowing as they get further from the centre; from the later 19th century they often get wider, as in the Japanese Rising Sun Flag, which is more appropriate in optical terms.
32 years ago I cut off a slice of a kiwi and put it in a jar with soil. Very quickly I had a pot full of seedlings. I repotted five seedlings and when the kiwi plants were 20 cm. high I planted them along the garden wall. The plants grew very fast, far above the wall, very decorative with large hairy leaves. After pruning we noticed that our cats loved the kiwi branches, they roll around in them and have really great fun. Cats from the neighborhood also regularly come by to kiwi-curl. In the meantime we have chopped 4 kiwi bushes, otherwise we now lived in a kiwi jungle. One plant is enough to meet the cuddle needs of our cats.
Kiwis we have not yet been allowed to harvest, for that to happen we should have nice warm weather well into November.

32 jaar geleden sneed ik een plakje van een kiwi af en stopte dat in een potje met aarde. Heel snel had ik een pot vol zaailingen. Ik verpotte vijf zaailingen en toen de kiwiplantjes 20 hoog waren plantte ik ze langs de tuinmuur. De planten groeiden heel hard, tot ver boven de tuinmuur, heel decoratief met grote harige bladeren. Na het snoeien merkten we dat onze katten dol waren op de kiwitakken, ze rollen er in rond en hebben echt grote pret. Katten uit de buurt komen ook regelmatig even langs om te kiwi-kroelen. Inmiddels hebben we 4 kiwiplanten gerooid, anders woonden we nu in een kiwi-oerwoud.Één plant is genoeg om in de knuffel behoefte van onze katten te voorzien.
Kiwi's hebben we nog niet mogen ooigsten, daarvoor zou het to ver in november mooi warm weer moeten zijn.

Later op de dag kwam RTS langs met een sleep Eurailpool MFS 100's. De trein werd gereden door de onherkenbare G1206 7106 / 1510 gehuurd van MRCE van Bad Bentheim naar Amersfoort en passeert hier de Rijssense meubelzaak Otje van Potje.

Later during the day, RTS hauled some Eurailpool MFS 100's wagons from Bad Bentheim to Amersfoort and passes here the well known furniture store of Rijssen, Otje van Potje. The train was hauled by the G1206 7106 / 1510 which was on lease from MRCE.

We are accessing the old part of the city through Rua Amoxarife. Two of old men gathered around a barrel on the porch of the general store. The old man sitting on a box and a game of checkers appeared to be in progress. When it started to rain they didn't stop. One of the oldest games the world has ever played is checkers. Checkers, known as draughts in Europe, date back almost 5000 years.
De Portugese stad Coimbra heeft tijdens de middeleeuwen gefungeerd als hoofdstad. Destijds stond de stad bekend als Aeminium. De plaats ligt ongeveer 120 kilometer ten zuiden van de stad Porto vandaan. In Coimbra zijn veel waardevolle herinneringen bewaard gebleven die ons meer kunnen vertellen over de afgelopen zeven eeuwen. De universiteit heeft hier een groot aandeel in gehad. De vele studenten die de stad telt zorgen dat de plaatselijke horeca niets te kort komt. Er zijn dan ook veel gezellige clubs, bars, terrassen en restaurants te vinden. Qua festivals doet de stad Coimbra het ook erg goed. Massaal trekken bezoekers richting de stad als de ‘Festa das Latas of Queima das Fitas’ de stad lijken over te nemen. De studenten houden de historie volle stad Coimbra goed in leven. De rust vind je vooral in de groene delen van de stad. Parken zoals Penedo da Saudade, Santa Cruz Park, Mata Nacional do Choupal en de botanische tuin van de universiteit worden dan ook veelvuldig bezocht door zowel gasten als de lokale bevolking zelf. Het oude stadshart is trapsgewijs aangelegd en ligt schilderachtig op de oever van de Rio Mondego. De kleine voetgangerstraatjes zijn rijk aan schoenen-, kleding-, en antiekwinkels. Op de Rua Amoxarife zitten twee oude mannen bij de ingang van een winkel. De oude man zit buiten op een houten kistje en speelt een potje dammen. Natural rubber is an elastomer that was originally derived from a milky colloidal suspension, or latex, found in the sap of some plants. The purified form of natural rubber is the chemical polyisoprene, which can also be produced synthetically. Natural rubber is used extensively in many applications and products as is synthetic rubber. The major commercial source of natural rubber latex is the Para rubber tree Hevea brasiliensis. This is largely because it responds to wounding by producing more latex. Rubber is generally cultivated in large plantations like here above. The coconut shell is used in collecting latex. The first commercial Hevea plantations in India were established at Thattekadu in Kerala in 1902.

Op het kleine eiland Koh Mak, kwamen wij onderstaande rubberplantage tegen. In Thailand zijn er veel meer rubberplantages. De gebruikte bomen zijn de Hevea brasiliensis ook wel Braziliaanse rubberboom genaamd. Deze boom kan ca. 30 meter hoog worden, is rijk vertakt en hij verliest in de droge periode zijn blad. Ongeveer 95% van het natuurlijke rubber wordt uit deze bomen gehaald en van de afgetapte latex blijft ca 35 % rubber over. De tapsters en tappers doen ongeveer eens per twee dagen een ronde om de potjes die de rubber opvangen te legen waarna deze gebruik kan worden om te persen en vellen rubber van te maken. Nadat deze vellen gedroogd zijn worden ze verkocht aan een fabriek die er weer voorwerpen van maakt die geheel of gedeeltelijk uit natuurlijk rubber bestaan.
Deze foto is gemaakt op egmondia. Je kan hier gewoon foto's maken omdat er naast de hekken er gewoon een doorgang is voor mensen die een kaartje kopen. Ik heb voor deze club 10 jaar als keeper gefunctioneerd.

The Konstantine Eristavi Street area in Tbilisi, Georgia, is located in a historic and vibrant part of the city, close to some of the city’s most important cultural and religious landmarks, including the impressive Sameba Cathedral. Sameba Cathedral, just a few minutes’ walk from Konstantine Eristavi Street, is one of the largest Orthodox cathedrals in the world and an important symbol of Tbilisi. This architectural masterpiece dominates the city skyline, attracting tourists and pilgrims alike. Around Konstantine Eristavi Street and the nearby streets, you’ll find a variety of small shops that capture the essence of everyday life in Tbilisi. Many of these shops are family-run businesses, selling everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to handmade souvenirs and traditional Georgian products. The area has a more local feel than the touristy areas in the old town, making it an interesting place to experience authentic Tbilisi. There are also small markets and street vendors in the area. Here you can find typical Georgian products such as fresh bread, spices, cheeses and wine, as well as clothes and household items. The atmosphere in the markets is busy and lively, with vendors offering their wares and customers haggling over prices. It is an ideal place to get in touch with the locals and learn more about their culture and customs. The area around Konstantine Eristavi Street has a mix of old and new buildings. The woman’s shop on the street is small, no bigger than a large cupboard, but it is well stocked with local produce. On simple shelves are displayed pieces of cheese, jars of honey and eggs. There are bags of herbs, and despite the limited space, she still has a nice assortment. The woman is friendly and calm, knows her regular customers well and takes the time to talk to them.
