Port Hercules (Port d'Hercule) is the only deep-water port in Monaco. The port has been in use since ancient times. The modern port was completed in 1926, and underwent substantial improvements in the 1970s. It covers almost 40 acres (160,000 m2), enough to provide anchorage for up to 700 vessels. The port is located in the Condamine district. Harbor pilots are required for all vessels longer than 30 meters. The depth of water in the harbor ranges from seven meters for standard berths and up to 40 meters for the outer piers and cruise ship docks
Purchased new in New York by Prince Rainier III, it was with this one that he welcomed Grace Kelly on April 12, 1956 upon her long-awaited arrival in the Principality, aboard the Deo Juvante after crossing the Atlantic at aboard the SS Constitution liner. It was also used for official processions such as that of General de Gaulle's arrival in Monaco in 1960.
