Sharat Poornima (शरत्‌ पूर्णिमा) is that Divine night when Radha Krishn revealed the supreme Bliss of maharas to uncountable Gopis in Vrindaban about 5,000 years ago. It is the full moon night which falls in October. This day is very precious in our lives for an additional reason as well: our beloved Shree Maharajji appeared on that night in 1922 in Mangarh, India. Whereas the devotees in Mangarh participate in a procession (yatra) with Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj seated on an elegantly decorated chariot (rath), here at Radha Madhav Dham we have a procession with Shree Radha Rani seated on a flower adorned chariot.

So on this most auspicious and important day, we began the celebration with bhajans on the Temple steps as we wait with great anticipation to welcome Shree Radha Rani magnificently enthroned on Her beautifully garlanded chariot for the Rath Yatra (रथ यात्रा). Thousands of flowers and petals shower down as we did the arti to Shree Radha Rani. With the blowing conches, singing and dancing, the procession began on a lovely path through Radha Madhav Dham accompanied by continuous nam sankirtan. After a break at Shyam Kuti, we continued back to the Temple for arti, a discourse and more devotional bhajans as well as a special darshan of the Deities in the shrine. After lunch prasad, we met again in the Temple for a magnificent cultural program of dancing and Radha Krishn leelas.

The Rath Yatra is a long standing tradition of Radha Madhav Dham not seen anywhere else in the West. The Divine vibration at Radha Madhav Dham Ashram is palpable and the personal benefit was immense to everyone who came and availed themselves of its serenity, beauty and wonder for the whole week.

To make this year's Rath Yatra celebrations even more joyous and devotional, Radha Madhav Dham temple, Austin, brought us the legendary Bhajan Samrat of India, Anup Jalota. The beautiful bhajans of Radha Krishn, sung by Anup Jalota in his melodious voice, performed inside the Divine temple of Shree Raseshwari Radha Rani was a spellbinding combination that touched our heart with devotional vibrations and brought us closer to Radha Krishn. Anup Jalota personally joined the Saturday morning Rath Yatra chariot procession.

Braj Banchary Didi, senior disciple of Shree Kripaluji Maharaj, gave a special discourse and led kirtan during the program inside the temple at noon, followed by lunch prasad at 1 pm.

Shabbir, 57, lives in Bangalore with his wife and three kids. He works in Islam Institute of Technology as a non-teaching staff, and also works as a Uber and Ola driver for airport taxi service.

“I have two girls and a boy. Both my daughters are computer Engineers, I am very proud of them. My boy knows the Quran by heart. It feels really good.”

Shabbir is from Shimoga, he has been in Bangalore for the past 38 years. When I asked him what he likes to do in his free time he said “I like helping people. If in this life I can be of service to someone else, I would consider myself worth of having this life. I feel very content.”

He has been fasting since he was 7 years old. Every year he goes to Shimoga to celebrate Eid with his mother. He says “Ramadan is a lovely month. I feel very happy during this month. The thirst that I feel, the hunger, it gives a very nice feeling, and when the iftar time comes, and when I have food, the taste is very different than on the usual days. The feeling you get when having water is something out of this world."

"For me Ramadan is nothing short of a miracle. I want to share with you an incident that made my faith even stronger. Just four days before Ramadan I was in immense pain. I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with kidney stone. The doctor said that I will have to go through surgery. All arrangements were made, the doctor also advised me not to keep fast during Ramadan. I remember 17th was the first Roza. Inspite of the doctor’s advise I still kept the fast and thought lets see what happens. That morning at 11, the stone came out itself and I did not go through any surgery and I am still keeping the fast everyday. I would not call this incident any less than a miracle for me. Ramadan gives an inner strength, and courage to face whatever comes in life.”
