To see a brown bear as it pursues its dinner of any variety is amazing. To see them in pursuit of a running salmon is especially thrilling due to the beauty and nature, as well as skill, of the catch. The big bear patiently waits on its target, lunges for it and often chases it down ... all the while racing through the river, water splashes erupting with its every move ... and then if lucky, it successfully secures the fish. At that point it usually shakes it around for some time and you can almost see the look of "oh no" in the salmon's eyes. It's all about the circle of life, right? However, the thrill doesn't stop there ... to see a brown bear tackle the task of filleting the salmon, precisely and efficiently, as it goes after prized sections first, it quite amazing as well. I think that most fishermen can learn a thing or two about their technique. As many of you know already, I LOVE bears!
Sorry for my absence recently. I have a good reason ... trust me. I'll share it on tomorrow's post. :-)

The MacCallum public seawater pool.
Right on Sydney harbour at Cremorne Point.
Photographed at sunset on Christmas Day, 2024.
In the distance the catamaran 'Golden Grove' is heading for the nearby Cremorne Point Wharf.
And here is the history of the MacCallum seawater pool:
In 1900 at the Paris Olympics, Fred Lane won the 200m freestyle race for Australia. Lane was a resident of Milson Road on Cremorne Point and around 1915 he began using boulders to form a tidal pool.
Through the 1920s the pool was slowly improved when Hugh MacCallum became responsible for much of the work and for formalising membership of the pool to raise funds for upkeep and to manage use.
The pool was named in MacCallum’s honour in 1930.
My Canon EOS 5D Mk IV with the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM lens.
Processed in Adobe Lightroom and PhotoPad Pro by NCH software.
Standing chest high in the middle of the 52 metre lap pool at my Pangkor Island resort, to shoot this dreamy view of the pool, the deck chairs, the sea villas, the ocean and sky, some rainforest, and the yacht. This was followed by a few laps; then sun baking on the deck chair, so relaxing and mindless! But, of course, that's what holidays are about! :-)
