Snowfall Over Korana, Silence Over the Boats

Snow falls in soft, dense curtains, and the Korana River carries its calm as if winter itself asked the world to slow down. The boats rest beneath a thin layer of snow, while the iconic pontoon bridge stands in the background — a familiar symbol of Foginovo Beach.

Everything is quiet, gentle and muted, yet inside that simplicity lives a special kind of magic.

It’s one of those moments when you realise that even the coldest day can hold its own warmth — if you just stop and take it in.

Snijeg nad Koronom, tišina nad čamcima

Snijeg pada u sitnim, gustim zavjesama, a Korana sve mirno nosi kao da zna da je zimi potreban sporiji ritam. Čamci uz obalu odmaraju pod snježnim pokrivačem, a u daljini stoji pontonski most — ona stara, draga tradicija Foginovog kupališta.

Sve je tiho, mekano i sivo, ali u toj jednostavnosti leži posebna čar.

Ovo je jedan od onih trenutaka u kojem shvatiš da i najhladniji dan može biti pun topline — samo treba stati i pogledati.

Enjoyed visiting colorful Curacao. This shot captures the Queen Emma Bridge (originally built in 1888) which rests on pontoons and crosses St. Anna Bay leading to the capital of Willemstad. It's a beautiful walk across the bridge and then down the main street.

The Sky in Korana’s Mirror

Morning on the Korana River, where the sky and water meet in perfect stillness.

Between the pontoon and the old wooden bridge, two boats rest side by side — different in form, but kindred in silence.

They seem to guard the echoes of all that once drifted here: fishermen, laughter, and time itself.

And on the river’s surface — a sky reborn, whispering the start of another quiet day.

Note the modern "draw bridge". That is a pontoon bridge that can be moved to side when a ship needs to pass.

Europe, Zuid Holland, Rotterdam. Leuvehaven, Pontoonbridge, Ships (cut from B&T)

The Rotterdam Leuvehaven has a very long history. After the works of 1609, also large ships could also enter the port, like the ones of the ‘Oost-Indische compagnie’. Thru the rapid development of the city in the 19th century, the harbor lost its function for large sea going ships in two steps. After the 1800 realization of the Leuvebrug near the Wijnkoophaven, ships could use the harbour up to that point. In 1859 the construction of the Nieuwe Leuvebrug made access to enter the entire Leuvehaven with large seas going ships impossible. The Leuvehaven became a river port for inland traffic due to that. It retained that function until the 80s of the previous century and is mainly used by the Havenmuseum now.

Shown here is the long walkway / pontoon bridge that crosses the old harbour and offers access to the vessels and cranes of the Harbour museum. The highrise in the BG is 'De Leuve' office building (H.D. Bakker, 1958) on the corner of the Witte de Withstraat.

The Dutch-colonial buildings along Handelskade are some of the most photographed buildings in the Caribbean. And once you've been there to see them, you understand why. With their gables to the street and the bright colors, they are a photographer's dream. Plus, because they face St. Anna Bay, the view toward them is unobstructed.

The bridge connects the Punda and Otrobanda quarters of the city.

The pontoon bridge is supported by 16 pontoon boats. The bridge is hinged and opens regularly to allow passage of oceangoing vessels. When opening, the bridge swings to the Otrobanda side.

Locally, the bridge is known as 'Swinging Old Lady'.

The photo was taken from Fort Amsterdam. The fort was built in 1635 by the Dutch West India Company to protect Willemstad harbor.

Anyone who is from Ireland, has ever been to Ireland or has had family visit Ireland on holidays will be familiar with John Hinde's iconic postcard style.

Sunny scenes and super-saturated colours would make you think Ireland's always like this. When I took this photo on a recent trip to the west of Ireland I thought of reproducing that style. All it's missing now is a donkey and/or a couple of red-haired kids!
