The outrigger canoe in Filipino and Indonesian is a bangka; to New Zealand’s Māori it is a waka ama; the Cook Islands Maori had to be different so they call it a vaka ama; the Hawaiian say waʻa; and in Tahitians and Samoans it is a vaʻa.
That said, the outrigger is a type of canoe featuring one or more lateral support floats known as outriggers, which are fastened to one or both sides of the main hull.
Smaller canoes often employ a single outrigger on the port side, while larger canoes may employ a single outrigger, double outrigger, or double hull configuration like a catamaran.
We sailed both types while in Polynesia.

On this dive there was a point where we had to choose between following a family of wild dolphins or 2 huge manta rays... we went for the dolphins, they played with us at approx 20 m for 15 minutes.
