HUAHINE - FRENCH POLYNESIA
Huahine is an island located among the Society Islands, in French Polynesia, an overseas territory of France in the Pacific Ocean. It is part of the Leeward Islands group (Îles sous le Vent). The island has a population of about 6,000.
The Fa'ahia archaeological site in the north of the island has revealed subfossil remains of several species of extinct birds exterminated by the earliest Polynesian colonists of the island.

Moorea is een Frans Polynesisch eiland, behorende tot de Genootschapseilanden in de Stille Oceaan. Het ligt slechts 17 km ten westen van Tahiti. Het is een echte huwelijksreisbestemming, maar als bezoeker moet je er wel rekening mee houden dat het er erg duur is. De naam Moorea betekent "gele hagedis".
Moʻorea is a high island in French Polynesia, part of the Society Islands, 17 km northwest of Tahiti.
Because of its stunning scenery and accessibility to Pape'ete, Moʻorea is visited by many western tourists who travel to French Polynesia. Especially popular as a honeymoon destination, Moʻorea can often be seen in advertisements in American wedding magazines. Arthur Frommer declared in Frommer's travel guide that he considered it the most beautiful island in the world.

From above, the shape of the island vaguely resembles a heart, with its two nearly symmetrical bays opening to the north side of the island: Cook's Bay and ʻŌpūnohu Bay.

The island is widely regarded as the 'centre' of the eastern islands in ancient Polynesia and it is likely that the organised migrations to Hawaii, New Zealand and other parts of East Polynesia started at Ra'iatea. A traditional name for the island is believed to be Havai'i.
Situated on the south east coast is the historical Taputapuatea marae which was established by 1000AD.
Raiatea vormt samen met het eiland Tahaa een atol gelegen in de Stille Oceaan. Het eiland behoort samen met acht andere eilanden tot de Benedenwindse Eilanden van Frans-Polynesië. Het eiland bestaat uit een uitgedoofde vulkaan en een door een rif omgeven lagune. In het jaar 2002 telde het eiland 11.133 inwoners. De belangrijkste plaats is Uturoa.
