I crocheted this scarf on a tiny hook. I made it from some polyamide yarn that I purchased for a couple of dollars at a thrift shop. I believe I got 3 scarves out of it. The fringe is crocheted loops with glass beads attached.

a little explanation:
This prescient proposal responded among other things to Stephen Harper, Canada’s former Prime Minister, mercifully ousted in 2015. His distinctly personal political agenda, obviously guided from Above, included the Harper Government’s official backing of a grandiose-to-fascistic monument, a Memorial to the Victims of Communism. Mercifully now sent back to the drawing board if not into the wastepaper basket.
Counter-proposals – satirical, disgusted, or both – included Memorials to the Victims of Capitalism.
I argued then, as the Panama Papers now amply reveal, that monuments are not for losers. They are for victors. I therefore created this working model of a Monument to the Victors of Capitalism.
The monument comprises two principal figures – enormous devils, each with one hand in the universal gesture for backhander and the other holding aloft on spears a banner bearing Piketty’s famous formula, r g. (In words, the return on capital is greater than the rate of growth of the economy.) The figures are supported by a large monolithic base, with hortatory capitalist maxims emblazoned on the front*. Why two devils? For good measure. Resemblances to secretive but nonetheless renowned – because exceedingly wealthy – brothers living or dead is incidental.
The scale of the model is approximately 1/55, as shown by the scattering of little (modelled) people sightseeing. (Facilities to allow the little people to ascend to the top of the base would be possible, but are undesirable.)
I am confident that one or more victors of capitalism will find it essential to build the proposed Monument at the proposed scale; this would make it over 37 meters high overall, and the two figures 16.5 meters high. I note that the largest statue in the world, though still under construction, is intended to be 182 m / 597 feet tall. I am equally confident that another victor of capitalism will, inevitably, fund a project to construction of this Monument to the Victors of Capitalism five times larger, making IT the largest monument in the world. This would require some engineering, but when you’re talking mega-billions, engineers will find the time. If vast wealth cannot be honoured by the largest statue in the world, what good is that wealth?**
* The quotations on the Monument’s base are often attributed to US railway baron Collis P Huntington, a late 1800s victor of capitalism if ever there was one. They were in fact said about Huntington by David Starr Jordan, a prominent academic.
**Somewhat less scaling up would do in a pinch, if the sponsors are pikers and decide to cheat by extending the spears to add height.

The 3-D printed One Shot by Patrick Jouin, part of Materialise’s .MGX product line, is a foldable stool manufactured as a complete piece using selective laser sintering.
