Their leaf-cutter cousins seem to have moved on. I begin to see more of these guys in the garden, but still not as many as before.

I love visiting this pollinator garden. So many different kinds of native flowers attract so many different kinds of pollinators.

Just another shot from the thistle patch ............. I may wish I had not let these plants propagate and I am definitely going to monitor their progress but the various insects and the finches seem to appreciate their presence.

I've noticed a few bugs here and there on the plants. I just hope they make it through the night, it's still dropping down into the 30's and it's quite chilly.
A black swallowtail looking a bit threatening as he goes about his work being an amazing pollinator. (CORRECTION: I just realized after seeing a photo in a butterfly group on Facebook that this is actually a black morph female tiger swallowtail (usually yellow). I didn't see the yellow fur thru all the pollen, and the stripes on her wings aren't shadows! First one I've ever seen!)

A couple of the insects at work doing their pollination chores in our garden. Bumble bees are always around and we have at least one nest in the garden (in a bird box), but so far this year, butterflies have been few and far between, so it was a real joy to be able to get a shot of this Tortoiseshell.
Took advantage of an overcast day and journeyed my way to a local Arboretum to see what it had to offer.

This is how I found it early in the morning when still dark. It had just come out and climbed up side of brick to start pumping its wings out. The antennae are still wet & limp. And this is the only time I saw its eyes which would later be covered with furry feathers. I was shooting thru the habitat mesh with flash in very dim light. Left it in darkness until I could have a friend come over for release later in the morning.
