I think my cucumber plant has had 20 or so female flowers, but only one male flower. I managed to take the one male flower to pollinated a few female flowers, so hopefully I'll get something. I had to cut off a lot of unpollinated flowers.
I am hand pollinating some of my cucumber flowers to help Mother Nature some. This ensures that every flower gets pollinated. Just helping the bees out a bit.

I have two domed cotoneaster bushes in my back garden which are simply buzzing at the moment, they burst into bloom a few days ago and I counted at least 5 different species of bees and other pollinators on them in the space of a few minutes
Iowa State University has planted several pollinator plots across the state. The idea is to have flowering plants as early in the spring and late in the fall as possible. There are two plots near Elkhart Iowa. Looking at the image for NRCS's Pollinator plot you can see some difference in the plant mix but the same end result Taken 9/19/18

It may be Winter, but my Bees were out working this flowering Rosemary. This shot shows just how the pollination system works. The Bee is rewarded with a small amout of nectar, while the flower places pollen on her back.
Chamisa is a shrub native to the high desert. It blooms in the Fall, and the bees just can't get enough of it! Look at those back legs...
I plant as many varieties of flowers as possible to encourage the pollinators to visit. The Obedient plant (Physostegia virginiana - aka False Dragonhead) is in full bloom and the bees are going nuts over the flowers. I got these in a garden trade with a friend. I had them in our garden at our old house but did not bring any along. I do have to spray them to keep the deer at bay.
