As I was out scouting for winter conditions yesterday I got a little lucky with the weather. The mist blowing through was epic as was Brentor Church just poking its head through. A quick check I was outside of Dartmoor national Park (You cant fly a drone on Dartmoor, or more technically launch a drone on Dartmoor), which I just was, I put up the drone to see what I could capture.
Back in 2010 an Iowa Northern loaded ethanol train out of Hawkeye Renewable Energy at Butler, IA, heads north towards the DM&E at Nora Springs, IA. Here the train pokes along at 10 mph a couple miles north of Greene. The Iowa Northern gets the DM&E power at Nora Springs and runs it down to the Butler Yard, near Shell Rock, IA. The Iowa Northern then assembled the trains for DM&E and then delivers it back to them at Nora Springs for points east.
As 2018 moves along Soo Line power is becoming less and less common on the CP roster. Soo 6037 became the CP 6301 in June 2017.
Poke Berry is a native plant in Pennsylvania and have been plentiful this year. It is beneficial to wildlife. Not a garden plant, they grow in our meadows to a height of 6 feet or more.

This morning's low fog event was epic! I mean, the fog pretty much consumed the city, leaving just the tops of the bridge and TransAmerica in poking through.
Definitely one of the best low fog events I've seen from the East Bay in a long time.

According to Wikipedia 'Poke' is a raw sallad served as an appetizer in Hawaiian cuisine. Pokē is the Hawaiian verb for "section" or "to slice or cut". Ahi poke is made with yellowfin tuna.

Blue skies finally poked through the clouds today. This is a picture I've wanted for a while but resisted taking so I could get a blue sky. This is the Edwin A. Ulrich Museum of Art at Wichita State University.

75 years ago, the United States of America was plunged into WWII after the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. WWII was going on at the time and the Axis powers of Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Imperial Japan were in their prime as they had seemed invincible to the eyes of the world. Before Pearl harbor Nazi Germany launched Operation Barbarossa, forcing the Soviet Union to fight back. Japan was already waging a genocidal campaign of terror in Asia and was poised to have control of the Pacific.
December 7th, 1941. The Japanese Empire launched their attack on the American naval base of Pearl Harbor, killing 2,403 Americans and destroying several ships and aircraft, including the USS Arizona and USS Oklahoma. It was a surprise military attack with the goal of crippling Americas Navy and to keep America out of the war.
Over the next 7 hours the Japanese attacked the U.S. over seas territories of Guam, Wake Island (seen here) and the Philippines. They also attacked the British territories of Malaya, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
The next morning on December 8th President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered his "Infamy" speech and the American public was outraged. The US declared war with an immediate passing by congress. There was an 82-0 vote in the senate and a 388-1 vote in the House. The American war machine was in full swing.
The Japanese empire may have had a victory bombing the shit out of pearl harbor, but the US soon bombed the shit out of Japan harder.
