Released Through: PokéPark Grand Opening

Card #: 043/PCG-P

Notes:

PokéPark was a traveling Japanese theme park based on the Pokémon franchise. Admission to the park is free, but there is a fee for each attraction visited. At the end of every attraction a free TCG promo card was given out. This card was one of 13 cards that you could receive at the end of each attraction and was given out if you went on the Pikachu's Forest ride. This card features the PokéPark Pokémon the Park 2005 logo and was never released in English. It is also the first Pikachu TCG card to depict more than 1 pikachu in the artwork.

PCG-P Promotional cards replaced the "ADV-P" Promotional cards in January 2004. These cards were numbered ###/PCG-P (PCG-P for Pokémon Card Game Promotional). Similar to the English promo cards, these cards featured a black star "PROMO" symbol

When Nintendo took over the publishing duties of Wizards of the Coast, they started adding a nine digit code called an ID number, starting with EX Ruby & Sapphire. The ID number is in the bottom left corner and is represented as XXX-XXX-XXX, and is different from card to card. Nintendo’s official statement doesn't say what this code is for, except that that it is for internal use only and they're not meant to be used within the TCG, nor is meant for collecting.

About the bead sprite:

1,916 Beads

I'm extremely pleased with this one! The browns shade perfectly, and the pose is excellent! As with Mankey, I used Primeape quite a bit, just a super useful Pokemon. He's kind of a combination of Venonat and the Tazmanian Devil, now that I think about it.

What my Fiancée calls this Pokemon:

Pig Face Monkey

Facts & Trivia:

It is capable of learning Iron Tail despite not having a visible tail. This may likely be due to the fact that its pre-evolution has one. Also, Primeape itself in PokéPark, who teaches the player Iron Tail, says that he does not have a tail. Primeape can learn Scratch and Fury Swipes despite lacking any claws, however, it cannot learn Cut. Considering its pig-like nose, its coloring, and tendency to fly into a rage if eye contact is made, Primeape has much in common with baboons. Primeape's name may be a combination of prime and ape. It is also likely that its name is a play on the word primate. Its Japanese name can be taken to mean 怒り猿, angry monkey.

Heckscher Inspired Project (3rd Quarter Side Project)

For my composition, I was inspired by the "You Go Girl" exhibit at the Heckscher Museum of Art. More specifically, I took inspiration from the abstract compositions, like "Machu Picchu, Peru" by Georgia O'Keeffe and "Solar Talent" by Ce Roser. But instead of doing an abstract from nature, I decided to do an abstract from music. While listening to one of my favorite orchestrated songs, I painted the colors I saw in the pattern of how I felt. The song had a melancholy feel, but also a strong feeling of hope and happiness in the dark tones. So by using cooler colors, I portrayed the darkness, but the shapes are supposed to show the hope within darkness. This song just gives me such emotion every time I listen to it, and it felt so good to find a way to express this feeling.

The song was the "Wish Park theme (After the Dark Vortex)" from PokePark 2: Wonders Beyond.

So. I used to be a bit of a gamer, pre-kids. I had (have in storage somewhere) the original XBox and I used to play when my girlfriend (now wife) was at work and/or school when we were shacked up back in T.O. (Toronto for you non-Canucks) and I was on days off.

I liked the classic shoot-em-ups: Halo, Ghost Recon, Return to Wolfenstein, Splinter Cell etc…

On occasion, my buddies Mikey and Jer and I would get together, pick up a two-four of beer, order up some grease-wheels and shoot the crap out of each other for hours. Good times!

Then we all got married and had kids. And we all moved to different cities. Yeah, kinda cramps your style when you end up with a Wii and "PokePark: Pikachu's Adventure!" is the hit game in the house. :(

Imagine my joy when Mikey txts me the other day and mentions that he and his daughter are playing Mario Kart at that very moment… My oldest kid just happens to be whipping my a$$ at Mario Kart at the same time…

I recall seeing something about online multi-player something-or-other for Mario Kart, so Mikey and I decide we're gonna try and make it happen. 5 minutes later the 4 of us are careening through "DK Summit" at a high rate of knots and hurling red turtle shells at each other! Oh Boy!

Hilarity and cross-country trash-talking ensue and next thing you know, we're researching a way to be able to blow each other up from across 3 time zones (once the kids are in bed of course, we aren't terrible parents!)

Apparently this game is all the rage, and I can tell you, after starting the single player campaign the other night, IT IS GOING TO BE AWESOME.

Bring it, Mikey...

I was off work this day and hit up some sales in town. I came across a sale and asked if they had games. The kid there said he had some he didn't want and was selling them for $5 each. He went in and got them and brought them out. I picked from the pile:

Pokepark: Pikachu's Adventure

Super Mario Galaxy

I reached in my wallet to get a $10 as I didn't want to haggle the kid much and realized I only had $7. I told him that I only had $7 and would just pick one not to short him but he said take both for $7. So I did.
