Le genre Greslania est endémique à la Nouvelle-Calédonie et comprend 3 espèces.
Il doit son nom à Evenor de Greslan (1839-1900), colon et sucrier d'origine réunionnaise arrivée en 1863 en Nouvelle-Calédonie, et ainsi à l'origine de cette vieille famille néo-calédonienne issue de la «colonisation bourbonnaise».
Evenor de Greslan acclimate principalement la canne à sucre, mais également de nombreux arbres fruitiers ou plantes comestibles comme le manguier, l'avocatier, le lecthi, le pommier-rose, le jamelonnier, la patate douce ou encore le manioc.
