The Playa de Cofete is a 10 km long sandy beach in the southwest of Fuerteventura. This can only be reached via a 20 km long unpaved road from Morro Jable. For swimming, it is too dangerous there. But the beach is not crowded and wonderful for hiking.
Die Playa de Cofete ist ein etwa 10 km langer hellsandiger Strand im Südwesten von Fuerteventura. Dieser ist nur über eine 20 km lange Piste von Morro Jable aus zu erreichen. Zum Baden ist es dort zu gefährlich. Dafür ist der Strand nicht überlaufen und herrlich zum wandern.

Wir befinden uns immer noch in und um Cofete. Rechts ist der Strand, diesmal mit Blick nach Süden, zu sehen. Links zeigt ein Ziegenhirten-Denkmal im Ort, man munkelt, es handele sich bei der Statue um Gustav Winter. / On the right one you can see the beach of Cofete, the left one shows a goatherd monument in Cofete, possibly it's Gustav Winter.
So I'm back from a fantastic week on the island of Fuerteventura! This was taken on Monday on the Playa de Cofete. This area is part of the Parque Natural Jandía and it really is a strange place, the sea meets the sand which meets the volcanos. It was quite a drive to get here, and the poor hire car was pushed to it's limits getting over the volcanic rocks on the mountain pass.

The probably most beautiful part of the island and one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited.
In the background is the legendary Villa Winter and with 807 meters, the highest mountain of Fuerteventura, Pico de la Zarza.
Among them is the more than 10 kilometer long beach of Cofete.
A simply stunning deserted place.

Picture taken from the pass on the path which goes to Cofete from the car park two kilometres west of Morro Jable.
On the left, it's Cofete village. The house that stands alone on the right is Villa Winter. Behind it, El Islote is barely visible.
It it is well worth taking that walk. From the pass, the views down into Cofete beach are breathtaking. Allow between three and four hours for the return trip depending on your physical fitness. I did it in flip-flops without any problems but proper footwear may be better.

The Parque Natural de Jandía holds practically the entire penninsula of Jandia, and where you will find many endangered species, flora and fauna. Playa de Cofete (with adjacent Playa de Barlovento) comes a close second to Sotavento as best beach Fuerteventura. Cofete beach is in the far south of Fuerteventura on the north coast of the Jandia peninsula.
