This turtle just appeared the other day. One day it was a pile of garbage and BAM... it all became one HUGE statement.
Macro Mondays theme: Buckle
When I read the Macro Mondays theme for this week I knew I would concentrate on the bucklesI inherited as part of my mother's button collection. These are mostly mother of pearl or early plastics. The selection process was tactile and soothing on several levels. I've photographed a few groups to share separately.
The finalists were three buckles that presented as owls. All three were within the size restrictions, but I decided to go with the smallest. It is the oldest and crafted from some kind of shell. The surface is very worn, but there is something about it that pleases me.

Yesterday was a wonderful day. A day of strong winds and refreshed flying clouds streaming across my palette. Spent a short time playing with plastics and selfies, which was great fun but got me very wet, then picked my spot and waited for the jet stream to bring me some fun. Occasionally I like to take shots without the cliffs, even though they're such a fantastic backdrop they always nag at the back of your head to take them . The Hazards of Love is a beautiful song by The Decemberists. The hazards of my beach love seem to be freezing cold winds when you're already very wet :)))
In addition to the woodchip traffic, P87 also switches out the Auria Solutions siding just east of Old Fort. After a fairly lengthy set of switching maneuvers, the train continues west into the town of Old Fort. A dragging air hose on the grade crossing would put them in emergency here a few seconds later, although with a short train they recovered quickly.
NS H-55 pulls hoppers out of XL Plastics in Clifton, NJ. This unique customer siding runs between two buildings, up a grade in pavement and crosses Clifton Blvd to access the building where the cars are unloaded.
Macro Mondays theme: Plastic
This is the top of a well known environmentally friendly washing-up liquid bottle. Shame the plastic bottle isn't so environmentally friendly but where would we all be without plastic?.
The overall image fits within the boundaries of 3"x2". HMM...
Before cars consisted mainly of plastics. Oddly enough these were produced ('back in the days') when auto manufacturers were truly artisans, in my hometown, Pontiac Michigan.

I'm working on a project called "plastics in nature". This green plastic bag had a 1 kilo stone inside it before it was dropped in shallow water. I was after the softwater effect, but too much wind and waves made it impossible to use a tripod, the bag moved too fast. The result is a picture taken handheld with a 8-stop ND-filter on 1,5 seconds. (The bag was saved and disposed properly.)
Some of the plastic which will be collected from my house in a couple of weeks.
2018 one photo each day
The sitting went much faster than the photographer had anticipated; the children were so still and quiet. They all kept their eyes open, and nobody ever lost their smile.
Housatonic's Sunday run of NX-12 heads north past Sheffield Plastics with newly purchased GP15-1 #1510 in the lead.

Waukegan, Illinois — An explosion at an Illinois silicone plant Friday killed two people and left four others injured, authorities said. Two others are missing and officials said it is unlikely they survived, CBS Chicago reported.
At least one of the people killed was a worker at the plant, CBS Chicago reports.
Emergency crews in the city of Waukegan suspended the search for the missing employees due to hazardous material and the structural integrity of the building.

David Attenborough says the world must act now on plastic after witnessing its impacts filming Blue Planet II
"We’ve seen albatrosses come back with their belly full of food for their young. You think it’s going to be squid, but it’s plastic".
“We may think we live a long way from the oceans but we don’t. What we actually do here ... has a direct effect on the oceans and what the oceans do then reflects back on us".
“It is one world. And it’s in our care. For the first time in the history of humanity, for the first time in 500 million years, one species has the future in the palm of its hands. I just hope he realizes that that is the case”.
"Almost 80 percent of the 8.3 billion metric tonnes of plastic produced over the past 70 years has been discarded into landfill or the environment, including the ocean".
"The plastic is thrown away since the 1950s will eventually form a layer sedimentary rock detectable by future generations".
"Tap-water samples from more than a dozen nations were recently analyzed for an investigation by Orb Media. Plastic fibers were found in more than 83 percent of the samples, meaning billions of people are drinking water contaminated with plastic particles".
"It is not yet known how the human body processes plastic after it is swallowed, including whether chemicals leach out of the plastic into the body and cause inflammation, or whether body tissue just seals over plastic".
"Blue Planet II returns to the oceans 16 years after the first series, The Blue Planet, was broadcast.
Its production team had noticed changes such as plastic in the ocean over years of making underwater films, said it's executive producer James Honeyborne".
"Greenpeace praised Sir David for speaking out. It called on the Government to introduce “deposit-return schemes”, whereby consumers receive a small deposit back when they return plastic packaging such as bottles for recycling".
“The good news is that there are things we could do right now to stop this plastic scourge,” said Greenpeace spokesperson Louise Edge.
Ms. Edge also called on companies to set a date for reducing the number of single-use bottles they produced and asked consumers to use less plastic".
Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
