Dom Hans van der Laan (1904 - 1991) was a Dutch Benedictine monk and architect. He was one of the leading figures in the post-war architecture movement, the Bossche School. Jan de Jong (1917-2001) was his student and in 1966 he designed the building where the exhibition can be seen: the priory at Buitenplaats Doornburgh. The architecture of the Bossche School is based on the 'plastic number', a spatial formula that determines the ideal size ratio of buildings. The peak of this architectural movement was in the 60s and 70s, but even now buildings are being designed that are inspired by the Bossche school.

Mamelis, Vaals, The Netherlands. Upper church (built 1967-68), designed by Dom Hans van der Laan (1904-1991), a Benedict monk, who lived in this convent from 1968 till his death. The abbey church is Van der Laan's master piece. It was based on Van der Laan's own theory of the plastic number, a threedimensional elaboration of the golden ratio.
