This is a close-up photo of a wood knot in a wharf plank at Port Maitland Beach. The image has been mirrored and copied to be symmetrical. The detail is best seen full screen.

Walking from our tropical island of malenge to the local sea gypsy village, the crystal clear waters you pass over are teeming with marine wildlife going about there daily business amongst the pristine reefs.the planks were tricky to navigate in parts to say the least.

This sturdy fence of natural heart pine planks has stood for a century. The longleaf pine wood is highly resinous, requiring no maintainence, withstands heat and humidity well, and is highly resistant to insect damage.

Two of my stalwart Miller Canyon hiking companions, Smudgie and Cookie, eye the camera curiously from a little plank bridge, which spans a dry creek channel under the pines. Though they have grown accustomed to waiting patiently while I take images of scenes in the canyon, being the subject of the camera piques their interest.

In spite of our advances, medicine has not become simpler, but far more complicated.

Are we better off with being the test subjects for thousands of new procedures, techniques, drugs, medications, and therapies?

Or, should we find the old country doctor? Hm. I wonder how Dr. Welby's doing these days

In a world as toy-crowded as Paprihaven, how can one stand out? How can one be distinguished from the rest?

It is no easy task. A fantastic look and design? Those abound. An imposing presence? Too many to list.

The discerning toy will seize every opportunity.

"I'm gonna jump! Take a photo! Put it on the Planks! I'm leaping off the shelf!"

It worked. We know Hawkgirl can fly so a "jump" from a high shelf means nothing for her.

But we admired the gumption.

Here's your spotlight on the Bijou Planks, Hawkgirl!*

* And it's not her first appearance on the Bijou Planks! She was seen in:

And BP 2021 Day 144 at the kissing booth??

It seems Hawkgirl will cross several boundaries to get in a shot!

She's also been in the Paprihaven storyline!

In issue 1501, quite angry at other girls for staring at Hawkman:

And in issue 1046 used by Newton in his illustration of comparative powers across universes:

So... Hawkgirl is doing pretty well getting appearances!

During our time in Lombok, we stayed at the Living Asia Resort, located at Senggigi. The pool and dining area overlooking the beach were adorned by these wonderful looking planks; each having a different and unique texture.

The ghost-valley plank road is located at the scenic area of Looking-for-the-wonderland with a whole length of 800 m and suspended from the cliff more than 1400 m above sea level on the upper side of the Ghost-valley Cave. Here your hearts will be agitated by the extreme shock and stimulation. Source: tianmenshan.com.cn.

Here's an ultra-wide panorama of the hairpin bend in the boardwalk at the most westerly point of the Garden of Eden forest trail.

So we're walking through an indigenous forest on planks cut from non-indigenous local timber. How ironic is that!?

Plank Lane Marina, a walk down the Leeds Liverpool canal on a bright day, this looks rather lovely and nothing like what it used to look like when the pit was in operation, definitely a great improvement.

"The Vizcaya Bridge was built to connect the two banks which are situated at the mouth of the Nervion River. It is the world's oldest transporter bridge and was built in 1893, designed by Alberto Palacio, one of Gustave Eiffel's disciples. The Engineer Ferdinand Joseph Arnodin was in charge, and the main financier of the project was Santos Lopez de Letona. It was the solution given by the engineer to the problem of connecting the towns of Portugalete and Getxo without disrupting the maritime traffic of the Port of Bilbao and without having to build a massive structure with long ramps. Palacio wanted to design a bridge which could transport passengers and cargo, and that could allow ships to go through. Palacio's shuttle bridge was adequate and could be built for a reasonable price.

The service was only interrupted once, for four years, during the Spanish Civil War, when the upper section was dynamited. From his house in Portugalete, Palacio saw his masterpiece partially destroyed just before his own death.

On July 13, 2006, the Vizcaya Bridge was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. In Spain, it is the only monument in the Industrial Heritage category. UNESCO considers the bridge to be a perfect combination of beauty and functionality. It was the first to use a combination of iron technology and new steel cables which began a new form of constructing bridges which was later imitated throughout the world.

The bridge, still in use, is 164 meters long, and its gondola can transport six cars and several dozen passengers in one and a half minutes.

There are two new visitor lifts installed in the 50 metre high pillars of the bridge that allow walking over the bridge's platform, from where there is a superb view of the port and the Abra bay." (Wikipedia)

Believe it or not, although I am afraid of height I walked over these planks.

Ashala's account

- Asha's first account

For those people who are not nautical the Poop Deck is

usually the deck at the back of a ship on top of the highest cabin, usually occupied by the captain and used as a look out. So the crew had every right to make pirate Ashala walk the plank for fouling their freshly scrubbed deck. This picture was created for 'Talk like a pirate day' which is celebrated every 19th September. I just want to thank my dear friend Karen for the use of her backdrop for this picture which inspired me to do something for this day. .Karen Webb
