(Version 2 in series)
This was photographed near Theodore Roosevelt National Park, named after the man that this territory had such a profound effect on. Roosevelt fell in love with the "perfect freedom" of the West, and found solitude and healing during his times here. Holding an undeniably unique character to them, Roosevelt said of the Badlands that "There are no words that can tell the hidden spirit of the wilderness, that can reveal its mystery, its melancholy, and its charm." Even in the apparent desolation of such land, he also said that "I grow very fond of this place, and it certainly has a desolate, grim beauty of its own, that has a curious fascination for me."
In the end, Roosevelt's fondness for the life and land he found in the Dakotas played a large part in the development of the future president's character and his push for the conservation of natural resources.
"I have always said I would not have been President had it not been for my experience in North Dakota." --Theodore Roosevelt

A return to one of my favorite cabins for a bit of light painting. The cabin is located in Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and was occupied by Theodore Roosevelt himself for a while.

Founded in 1239 it was an Augustinian priory of Black Canons. It was a delight to experience the beautiful light inside St. Olave's Priory, Norfolk, UK. To soak up a world forgotten, a time past.
Notes: 'The wonderfully complete 14th century brick-vaulted refectory undercroft - later a cottage occupied until 1902 - of a small Augustinian priory'.

HDR photography by Timothy Selvage of Thrust SSC at the Coventry Transport Museum... Just picked up my new car, I'd like to see the police stop me with a top land speed of 763mph (1228kph). No one is gonna catch me now, but parking may prove to be an issue...

No visit to Berlin is ever complete without taking a shot at the roof of the Sony Center in central Berlin.
HDR Photography of Regent Street, London, UK with red double decker bus by Timothy Selvage.
Gorgeous curve in the road. Although the streets were becoming cold and glum with winter shadows, the sun was still catching the tops of the buildings and the sky was glorious. Next time you're feeling cold and blue try looking up...

HDR photography by Timothy Selvage inside Norwich Castle. This shot was taken on the 2nd floor looking down and across the exhibits. Dealing with the lighting in this place was crazy. See: plus.google.com/u/0/+TimothySelvage/posts where I explain a little bit about the conditions and setup.

When visiting Dungenesss you are drawn into a very different landscape. Boats are randomly beached along the shingle, each one at a different stage of decay and distress. They have their own beauty and presence. History hangs over them like a loose covering which when pulled back reveals a full and active life of being part of this coastline, this stretch of sea.
HDR photography by Timothy Selvage inside Chester Cathedral. I had actually planned to upload a different picture this evening but since then I have been inspired to change my workflow with the hope of adding a new dimension to the way I process images. However, I have not quite mastered this technique. When I saw the picture I was about to upload I knew it would be a great advocate for this new method so couldn't face uploading it as it was.
It was one of those moments when you realise that there is room for improvement, that you want to improve though haven't quite yet done so - but know how to. It's a positive moment, but is definitely riddled with frustration as you can't fast forward the learning process.
It's a tough call for me to make as I no longer want to upload anything as nothing seems good enough anymore, but at the same time I don't want to lose momentum and motivation. Sometimes it is better to produce something than forever wait for nothing (work in progress). Today I really began to understand the turmoil of immersing oneself in art. You can visualise what you want to produce but can't produce it just yet. It starts to burn inside and you begin to work frantically.....
I hope you're able to continue enjoying these older pictures in the meantime...
