Arcades autour de la place des Vosges

This was a place I had meant to go for a long time, and was excited after my first night in New Zealand to head to this lake in the hope for mirror still water for the reflections of this.

The added bonus of the birds sleeping in the trees, the mountains with snow and the clouds in the distance is a bonus.

I think next time i'll use a longer lens so the houses aren't included, but I like the really wide angle lens as it captures the rocks in the foreground and really helps to really show how beautiful and isolated this tree is.

My mum wanted this in blue, so I left it as it is, but I think it suits a black and white photo as well.

enjoy!

This place is in german called "Meerauge" and is located in southern Austria. The pond with it's crystal clear water gets the cyan color from algas.

Just made me happy.

No birds at the feeders right now, today a Rat was my main visitor along with the three female Pheasants who gather around the feeder cage like Macbeth's witches.

Not too long ago, someone asked me about a photo I took in a small town in northeastern Texas. With some artistic conceit, I had used it as a Southern/Western Gothic photo and it worked for that purpose.

On New Year's Day, 2020, I stood at the site of an injustice. Other words are just as capable descriptors - atrocity, murder, lynching.

From this bridge, two white men threw the body of a 14-year old - beaten, shot, tied to a 70-pound cotton gin fan blade - into the Black Bayou, which carried it into the Tallahatchie River.

There is much I could say about that day, the people we met, spoke with and listened to. But that is my story - and this is not the place for it.

His name was Emmett Till.

Today is the 65th anniversary of his death.

This Hoverfly has spent the night sleeping in this Jewelweed flower, and is just waiting for a bit more sunshine to dry it's wings out.

It is estimated that there are more than 120,000 Black Bears in British Columbia and over 7000 Black Bears on Vancouver Island making it one of the more dense places in the world for this bear population. The Vancouver Island black bear is slightly darker in colour and larger than the mainland bear and is considered one of 6 subspecies in British Columbia.

This is part of a large addition that I am making to my Bay View album. Bay View is a community of summer cottages near Petoskey, Michigan. Most of these additional photographs are highlighting the great number of porch styles in the community. Taken on an drizzling, overcast day.

And as Gina said under my “Seven Up” porch, the houses in this community are “all-American”, not a cookie-cutter in the place. Available at 17-robert-carter.pixels.com in the “Bay View” collection.

Johnston Canyon, Banff National Park Alberta, Canada

So I just got back a few days ago from a solo road-trip up to Canada. I had snagged a campsite at Lake O'Hara back in April and have been eagerly awaiting the trip since. I spent 4 nights between Lake O'Hara, Banff, and Jasper. I went on glorious hikes and made about a million side excursions. I'll have more details written up later in an album description when I have more patience. In a nutshell, I had a blast despite a little bad weather and experienced incredible natural grandeur.

This location is along the super popular Johnston Canyon trail (there were hordes of people on the trail, almost making it unbearable for me). I knew about this little spot and had done a little research as to what to look for but even then, when I "found" the trail it was still a surprise to me since I wasn't 100% sure where it was. I was absolutely thrilled to have found it, and basically had the whole place to myself (there was a couple there doing some shots, but they were respectful and didn't detract from the splendor in any way) for a good 30 min or so. It is probably the coolest thing ever to see. And even though that rock looks like an island, it's just a matter of perspective and is actually a jutting, curved land mass.

This is also my first true HDR photo, and I think I did an alright job; no over-the-top glow effect or details. If you think I could do better, I would appreciate any advice since I am new at this and am really just sort of winging it.

I will have a ton of photos to post, but I won't inundate you with all of them at once, and I still have hundreds to go through. Just thought this would be a good start.

Cheers!

Happy Friday!!

At the market place. The colors of the stalls and clothes were wonderfully vivid. And those colors are reflected in her shades!

One of the attractions about Seaside is the tide pools. Once a year, in winter, we have very low tides that expose pools that are created by the tidal flux. People come from all around to see creatures stranded in pools, waiting for the tide to rise again and wash them away. So each year I add to my series "Exploring the Tide Pools" where I capture a small slice of life with people interacting with this natural wonder.

The estate of Clement Studebaker in South Bend, Indiana. Designed by Chicago architect Henry Ives Cobb, the house remained in the Studebaker family until 1933. In the following years the mansion was the home of the Anerican Red Cross and a school for handicapped children.

We have always known it as Tippecanoe Place Restaurant which opened in the late 1970's, where we still enjoy having a fabulous dinner once in a while. The neighborhood is still very intact with many beautiful mansions from the Studebaker era, unlike nearby downtown South Bend which has been largely replaced with new buildings.
