The January skies were full of clouds this year as I enjoyed our recently rolling back of restrictions. I was now able to wander outdoors any where anytime.

The ir. D.F. Woudagemaal is a pumping station in the Netherlands, and the largest still operational steam-powered pumping station in the world. On October 7, 1920 Queen Wilhelmina opened the pumping station. It was built to pump excess water out of Friesland, a province in the north of the Netherlands.

In 1967, after running on coal for 47 years, the boilers were converted to run on heavy fuel oil. It has a pumping capacity of 4,000 m³ per minute. The pumping station is currently used to supplement the existing pumping capacity of the J.L. Hooglandgemaal in case of exceptionally high water levels in Friesland; this usually happens a few days per year. Since 1998 the ir. D.F. Woudagemaal has been listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.

One of many ongoing approaches, where I move through the world as a harvester of images stumbling, strolling, lurching, equal parts accidental, and intentional. My concerns circumnavigate around questions that resist easy answers: time as texture, presence as performance, possibility as glitch. I trace the contours of decay and growth, hope and entropy, searching for the quiet collisions where meaning might emerge. Each image is less a document than a provocation an invitation to reconsider what we 'see', and what we ignore.

The rear of buildings hold more interest for me than the front, often.

The best still lives are often simply "found".

iPhones have come a long way in the last 13 years, still this green is to die for and, well, the graffiti is long gone of course.

One of several projects, where as a harvester of images I stumble & lurch, part collector, part curator. Questioning time, presence, and possibility, amongst other ideas.

I worked here for a period of time, it was a surreal place, barely occupied in terms of students. Yet there were 2 canteens.

In 1998, I undertook a long and personal journey, from Melbourne to Whyalla. I flew to Adelaide and onto Whyalla, hired a hire car and spent about a week driving around. I made my home for the week in the caravan park at Whyalla. I spent most of each day driving and photographing. I blogged about it on my blog in 2023
