Day 310 - On a mini-vacation to the South Shore of Nova Scotia, I paid a visit to the Keji Seaside Adjunct. Here I saw my very first Pitcher Plant, so it seemed like a good subject for my "garden" photo of the day! The Pitcher Plant is such a cool plant - carnivorous and strangely both homely and beautiful at the same time.
Yellow Pitcher Plant (Sarracenia flava) was the largest of the three species of pitcher plants that I photographed at the Green Swamp near Wilmington, North Carolina.
An enormous seepage slope populated by White-topped Pitcher Plants, Parrot Pitcher Plants, Purple Pitcher Plants, and their hybrids. This site was extremely fortunate to be spared from the ravages of European settlement and was continually burned by its rural landowners for hunting purposes, thus preserving the pitcher plant populations.
