The scaffolding hangs from the pier. It is there to stop workers being washed away when they are working below the pier by a big tidal wave. They still get soaked though.
The North Pier Oban, complete with restaurant and pontoons, built in 1927.

An archive shot of Mumbles Pier - the builidng on the left is the old Lifeboat Station which has now been put up for sale - I think it has recently been sold. The new Lifeboat Station is the buildng at the end of the pier.
The Henry Bell Monument and Pier in Helensburgh.
The inscription on the monument in West Clyde Street reads:-
Erected in 1872
To the memory of Henry Bell
The first in Great Britain who was
successful in practically applying steam
power for the purposes of navigation.
Born in the county of Linlithgow in 1766
Died at Helensburgh in 1830.

Another from the Banjo Pier at Swanage.
When I arrived it was raining with thick cloud and it did not look very promising.
Thankfully the strong winds managed to break up the clouds just before sunrise allowing some nice colour to come through making the trip worthwhile.

Llandudno Pier is found in the town of Llandudno in North Wales. It’s location in a natural coastal bay made it geographically ideal as a purpose-built Victorian seaside town for Victorian families to holiday and visit.
