The Picts were a conference of tribes from the north and east of Scotland forming a Celtic sub identity in contrast with the Dál Riata 'Scotis' of Northern Ireland and the west coast of Scotland and the British iron age cultures south of the Forth. Whilst their dates bridge into the first centuries of 'history' there are arguments that Pictish culture needs to be measured as a late iron age. Fine craftsmen with realism (left) narrative description (centre) and energetic 'character' (right). Here the idea of being naked under the kilt is taken a step further to 'naked under the belt - quite a challenge knowing some of the east coast winds. The Picts are well known for late decorative and figurative standing stones including some examples that might be placed into an analysis of statue-menhirs.
