A macro view of pickling spice in a wooden spoon, taken for the Macro Mondays group theme, "Condiments." The frame represents a span of ¾ -of-an-inch across.
Pickling spice can be used to pickle various foods as well as to season certain dishes. Ingredients: whole coriander; whole mustard seed; whole dill seed; cracked bay leaves; cinnamon, red chile; whole allspice.

The scene was illuminated by a single diffused overhead LED light @ 1-o'clock.
Lens: Vega 11U 50mm f/2.8 with a 36mm extension tube attached.

I did a search for "pickles" in Flickr and found (not counting pictures of the pickled cucumber) that about half of pets named Pickles are dogs and the other half are cats. I'm no zoologist, but I'm fairly certain this one is a cat.

yay -- finally a froggie joins the family.
dill is wearing an outfit that i picked up at target hoping it might fit. it's actually an only hearts club "little kids" outfit. it looked soooo small in the package but something told me it just might work.
in the end... it sorta fit! but, it looks cute from the front and it's better than most anything else i have for her for the time being!
she's SUCH a cutie!
Pickles is one of my Grand Cats. She lives with my daughter and her family. Several years ago she lost the use of one of her eyes, but manages well. She recently lost her adopted brother, Oscar. She used to be really shy, but has become much more social now. Photo taken on 01/01/22.
Orange County, CA. Thinking these strange creatures might sting, I hesitated getting in the water. The ranger didn't know what they were. Turns out they're harmless sea pickles. They've washed up on California beaches before. Apparently they glow in the dark! Taken with an iPhone Xr.
"Sea pickles are also known as pyrosomes, or “fire-bodies,” because they can glow with blue bioluminescence, the Monterey Bay Aquarium said on Twitter.
"Each sea pickle contains a colony of tiny organisms known as zooids, represented by what look like small bumps on the creatures’ surface, said Andrew DeVogelaere, head of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Research Program.
The sea pickles float on water and “are just going to go wherever the ocean takes them,” DeVogelaere said.
