Had an idea that we could kinda go over the top on this one- I mean have you seen INSA's own shoots already- they are dope, always been a fan....so we got a little indulgent on this one.

Lit mainly by Matt and Tash, whilst I ran around snap snap snapping with the compact camera.

Styling By Ophelia Fancy, additional stylin tweaks by Bekah, and Hair and Mannequin MakeUp by the supremely ace Ciara McCarthy. Additional assistance by Scarlett. Button pressed by me.

Models Sally (floor) Sophie (standing) and Hannah (bath). No models were harmed in this image, or forced to eat Doughnuts....

see the whole shoot on film, here

you can book us via www.garage-studios.co.uk It really does make sense now doesnt it....

damn i put in the book but forgot here- the shoot was produced by A.Bronkhorst....

The visual overload continues apace.... I have a reason just not quite sure what it is yet- sat down for a long time this morning with Sally discussing the second part of this project. Its partly formed- hopefully all will go quiet and then it will magically appear on yr screens soon. It will have more of Elin though, so that can only be a good thing.

Film. etc...blah blah. Buttons pressed....

This is for Students on my Creative Photography Course at Garage Studios.

Nothing I could say would have anything to add to what the waterfall itself has already spoken to you.

This is a slightly different composition and a completely different set of processing steps from one of my favorite mornings from last year. I can't wait to get back up here this year to try some new ideas as well as photographing this amazing mountain from areas away from the lake itself. My goal is to get up there just as the snow is melting creating nice tarns all over the place to utilize for reflections.

We had a little bit of snow around the Seattle area today and after seeing Dene post a fb pic (no she didn't bother to tell me the sky had cleared) I jammed over to the bridge to check it out. Her and Hai were up there already freezing and firing away. There were some fast moving clouds that lit up with some pretty nice color about 15 minutes after sunset. I stuck around until the last light finally died out and bailed home just in time to slide up the hill to the house as it was freezing up.

Hope everyone is out enjoying the snow and having a little fun while staying safe.

I decided to hold off on posting my comparison shots for another time but here is a second look at the Cape Kiwanda rush, with a little softer light and more water. All roads lead to the ocean. Happy hump day everyone.

For those of you interested, we are holding two workshops at the coast this year, a Northern Oregon Coast coming up in March, and a Southern Oregon Coast workshop in September. If you want more information please visit My Profile

Portrait from the Writers One series 2005

All the portraits are of infamous Graffiti Writers/Artists that I have got to know through photographing their work.

The final photos were printed up to 2 metres, selaed and handed back to the Artists to customise. There is No Photoshop on these- its all handpainted with spray paint, markers and tools of the trade. I will include a link to the short documentary soon, documentary

I'm tired and can't decide what I want to post tonight so I am posting this and walking away from the computer. Have a good night everyone.

View this large and check the details! If you want to get out and get your hands into some beautiful night photography, check out exposurenorthwest.wordpress.com/ and have a look at our upcoming Rose City Nights workshop. It is a great opportunity to get out in a safe environment with a group of other photographers, bring back some beautiful images and learn a wealth of information in the process.

Strolling through my hard drive tonight I ran across this image and decided to process it for a little change of season. Many photographers really enjoy winter photography and while I am certainly one of them, I enjoy it the most just as it begins. Just after the first snowfall, or the first frost. These times capture the magic best for me. Thank you so much to all of you that signed up for our last 2 workshops of the year and next years workshops as well. We have 1 spot left in each of our 2010 workshops if you are the kind of person that enjoys jumping in at the last minute and you can find out more about our 2011 schedule by clicking the link below.

Another from the fog last week in Astoria. These shots were really fun to take with all the shifting fog and color. Not much else to say tonight. It's your lucky day. :)

I took a little trip to the coast this weekend and stopped off at the Peter Iredale to do a little light shooting and to test out the light gathering properties of the Canon 5DMark iii. This image was captured with the moon as a backlight source casting a long shadow across the foreground of the image. I "painted" the light on the ship with a small flashlight during the exposure. I am very impressed with this camera. The glowing light on the horizon is from fishing boats. This camera really does see in the dark.

The first time Bluey took me to Yosemite it was springtime and there was water, people and blue sky everywhere. I didn't even get one shot that I liked. This time I went back with Blue & Chinniah and everything had balanced out. We were hoping for some snow but I will take some nice light and clouds any day. This isn't my favorite shot of the day but I am not editing on my own computer so I figured I would go with this one. Hope everyone is having fun out there shooting.

**Replaced with the cropped version**

Bluey and I are off on an epic road trip for the holidays. I hope each of you have a happy & healthy holiday with family & friends in the coming week.

I haven't been shooting much lately but I have been busy with my photography. Workshops, signing up wedding gigs for the summer, licensing deals and more than anything...getting my &%*$ together. My files were a total wreck! I had images everywhere. Finally everything is coming together and I am ready for spring to sprung!

When you take an honest look at the world around you just cannot help but feel small. This image was captured in the Hoh rain forest on the western Washington coast. In order to show both detail in the shadows and capture the blue of the sky I blended three images taken at different exposures.

I titled this image Irresistible because the original version is my most stolen photograph. A Google image reverse search will bring up hundreds of different websites where the image has been posted, mostly because of Reddit. In one night it received 60,000+ views. This post isn't about that though and I have collected some decent money from it's illegal use. It's just an interesting side story. Many non-photographers do not even think the image is real which is funny and sad at the same time. I have even been accused of Photoshopping in the plants in the foreground. If this one gets stolen and passed around like the original edit and you find yourself questioning the reality of a place like this...you need to get outside more. :)

Anyway, I really just wanted to give it a proper re-edit because I really do like the image. The processing of the original is terrible. I just posted the first of my 2013 workshops on my website, the ever popular Palouse workshop. All of my workshops next year are going to be smaller & more focused landscape photography workshops. In the coming week I will be announcing a Seattle Night Photography workshop as well as Columbia River Gorge, Oregon Coast, Washington Coast & Mt Rainier National Park workshops. If you are interested, check out the website!

Because of continuing interest in my upcoming Fall Color workshop, I have added a 2nd set of dates, October 20th & 21st. This 2nd workshop only has 1 spot left. If you are interested, please shoot me an email or register!

Here is another image from our first night of snowfall here in Seattle last week before being snowed in and driven into eternal boredom. I truly love snow and especially watching it fall but once the ice hits I am ready to tap out. :) I am sure my first image from this night has spread around the world by now after being picked up by Tumblr and re-shared a gazillion times. I really dislike that website and it, as well as a few others have caused me to place my watermarks in less conspicuous places.

Anyway.... many people have been asking me for widescreen desktop size images of mine that they could use for wallpapers or screensavers. This weekend I finished 5 collections of wallpapers available for purchase from my website for those who are interested. They can be found by

jumping over to www.aaronreedphotography.com/ and browsing the ScreenSavers tab.

I was racing the rising sun during the creation of this image. The higher it got, the more of the beautiful trees behind the river were irradiated by harsh light but at the same time, it illuminated the surface of the water and allowed me to capture the essence of the light and it's effect on the entire canyon. Or I just have a really nice camera. One of the two. ;)

Workshops for next year are filling up fast with some already over 50% full. If you sign up with a friend, I will extend you each a $25 discount.

From the fashion editorial shoot in Newhaven last week. We did the almost final edit last night (myself and emma) and just need to run it past Tash as well- but you'll be shocked to know that this image didnt even make it in. Thats how freakin hot this shoot is, cos this has hit the cutting room floor, trashed, binned, out. Uploaded for

Polaroid week as its one of my favourite images ever- but you should see the one that we replaced it with....

This is two of the most stunning girls I have shot, and together they are pure gold, Sally left and Elin right.

For the Banks Hiscox /DarkDaze project. To tell you a bit more, I asked 2 super talented photographers to come on board and work on this new project- we have also all teamed up with Sally Reynolds, Stevi Jelbart and Emma Sandham-King. Its an attempt to really push ourselves into new areas, team up, swap around, trade models and hit you all with some heavy heavy shoots. Plus it will all culminate in something that you can hold in your hands and learn to love... I am so excited by this.

The best thing about this shoot was working with my all girl team on every aspect, styling, poses, make-up it was a complete team effort, and even though the building we were shooting in was being knocked down as we stood there- hence the title- it was the most laid back and successful shoot i have done so far. this project has legs...

we will be using a lot of Brighton talent- models we know and shoot a lot, but in very different ways. Louie Banks has some insanely good shoot in the bag already, when him and stevi just smashed everyones expectations, and I met up with Emma yesterday and we worked on our next ideas. We will get a blog going really soon so you can keep up with what we are all doing- and we can post some more outtakes etc, just waiting on Sam and Sally to get that going....

Sometimes things appear bigger here

I cant begin to describe the trauma of the past 4 days- all computer related- that has led to possibly losing my past 2 years of Raw and processed files- including the Cali Trips- and yes I had backed up to seperate external drives- but a crazy timed power cut, whilst 2 drives were performing a routine back up meant I was greeted with drives that wont mount and have to pay a visit to the Data Retrieval guy tomorrow. Instead of getting angry- cos its only computers- I tried some Buddhist zen kinda shit persuaded Sally to bunk off work and went and shot some polaroids (altho this is actually fuji fp-100c) to maybe start the whole collection again- with real prints not just binary....

so this is real light, real film, no tricks, no reflectors, and back to pretending to line up a shot and check the focus but really just waiting till she looks away for a second and popping that shutter.

Polaroid 340 Land Camera- Ophelia Fancy undies, Sally 6pm.

Ill be heading back here tomorrow to lead a private workshop with a gentleman from California who I am sure will be as amazed by these rolling hills as the rest of us. Then I'm off to do some shooting of my own to put the new D800 through it's paces...so far I have figured out how to turn it on...so I am well ahead of the curve. ;)

In other news.... my Mom has joined flickr to share her iPhone macro shots. Please do me a huge favor and jump over to welcome her and give her some support! You can find her here: www.flickr.com/photos/indiadawn/7350138250/in/contacts/ She would be happy to see you and already looks at many of your photographs regularly!

We have 2 workshops left this year and will be adding 1 day Seattle & Portland dates in the near future. Please get in touch with me to discuss any private workshop events you may be interested in this summer!

I don't have a whole lot to say tonight. This is one of those very rare occasions where I have actually talked myself into a state of silence. I know, I know...Silence is golden right? :) I only have a few more of these to add back into my stream. If it would ever stop raining here in Seattle (and hailing) for at least a few days, maybe I could actually get out to get some fresh images. Oh what am I saying? I'll just keep working on this Ark I have been building instead.

A few of you asked if I had a wider, horizontal view of my previous shot and so here it is. I personally prefer the vertical comp, which is rare for me, but this is still a wonderful view. :) I am heading out for Oregon in just a few minutes and won't be home until after Christmas so I want to wish everyone a Happy Holidays and I'll see you on the flipside.

I went back and reprocessed this shot for 500px and realized that my previous upload here was terrible! Why don't you guys tell me this stuff? :) Here is my reprocessed version. Fall is fast approaching and I am really hoping for a better show than last year. Fall always has been my favorite time of year and the only season I truly get excited about. I love the cool weather and of course all the color that it brings.

We only have one workshop left this year, our Fall Color/Post Processing workshop in October.

A shot for the Ophelia Fancy wedding collection. A long time in the making we finally shot this on thursday night, in a freezing basement of New England house. Model Sally, All clothing by Ophelia Fancy, who also made the amazing paper flower for me. This is a real throw back to 80's shots but I think it kinda works. A tricky shoot with no assistant, but few more choice images to come. (by the way this was a commissioned shoot- bridal images have gotta be 'safe' I know its not my usual style but hey ho- we all gotta fill the brief sometimes eh)

Very rarely to I freeze water in motion when shooting. It certainly has it's place like when trying to show the power of the falls or when you are trying to capture something running the falls like a raft full of crazy people. :) I took a few shots of this frozen beauty from this perspective and this was the only one that I took that stopped the action. It turned out to be my favorite. You just never know.

Here's another image I captured on my latest visit to the Iredale and another image captured after dark. Smooth contrasty sand and a sky full of stars...gotta love it. Well, you don't have to I guess. One thing you can't deny is that ISO 800 here is smooooth.

I haven't had a chance to get out and shoot much lately but I am hoping to change that in the coming months. This was an image I captured last month on a quick run through Oregon. The sunset looked promising but never materialized. It was still a nice day on the lake.

A slightly unorthodox comp from the well documented Trillium Lake. I still laugh to myself whenever I visit this lake because when I first began shooting this was one of the first places I visited just before winter. A month later I went back and they had closed the road due to snow. Determined to get a great sunset with snow around the lake I hiked all the way in there (slowly jogging at times through the snow because time was running out) and got there just in time...to find the lake frozen. I hiked back out in the dark, cold and defeated and thinking I must be an idiot for not realizing that the lake would be frozen. I have a few stories like this one but choose not to tell them very often. ;)

I really enjoyed these shots and wanted to process a different one then my previous post, because I had done a sloppy job on that one in PP. This one had a better swirl and a second, well defined swirl in the back so I went with this one. I am going to get this one printed and see how it looks. I am off for a trip down to Rowena and then out to Steptoe Butte this weekend, hoping for some good light and no ticks. I hate those bastards! I will have a suit of armor on and a flamethrower just in case I get backed into a corner by them. I mean seriously, there are going to be a lot of us meeting up there Saturday morning to shoot but I am not sure there will be anyone as juicy and tasty as me up there...and I am sure those little bastards know it. I want to keep the blood I have. I need it. :) Hopefully my 100% DEET helps at least a little. See you guys when I get back, hopefully with a great image or two to share. Enjoy the weekend and Happy Shooting!

13s exposure with the light from a mobile phone- second in ongoing series.

As you can tell my first real experience of photography was in those slightly cheesy but absorbing books that used to appear in WHSmiths, packed full of starburst filters and soft lens. Its when photography kinda felt illicit and mysterious to me. Emma and I wanted to do something very different from what we normally do on this shoot- you will be able to see the rest in GangUp magazine when it surfaces in the summer.

Ambient light and a bounce/gelled strobe. Focussing through tights is a fucker- especially when you have gaffer taped the lens. Shot on a the might James Kendalls 6x6 Bronica, on some 2yr expired fuji400H 120 film, this is handheld at 1/15s with some white tights over the lens to give that distinctive feel.

Oh and flickr has done something hideous to the colours on this... its not really jaundiced.

During last weekends workshop the rain came down pretty heavy on the first day so it was a nice retreat to take shelter inside this cave at Ponytail Falls. We were all packed up and about to start hiking out when a nice little bank of fog rolled in and added some atmosphere, prompting everyone to dig their gear back out of their bags for one last shot. The roof of the cave is covered in green and orange lichen or something (I'm no expert folks) and in this image it looks a little like shadow noise but I like this shot...so here it is.
