“To see in colour is a delight for the eye but to see in black and white is a delight for the soul.” — Andri Cauldwell
Had a shopping day today with not much opportunity to take a picture, so for today I'm sharing a picture of the sunrise from the back garden which I took last weekend.
First day back at work after all the ups and downs of the last couple of weeks and I'm knackered.
I've chosen to post another black and white picture, this time of a tree. I captured this a couple of weeks ago during a walk. I love the look of winter trees in black and white, love the atmosphere and dramatic effect.
My first attempt at a photo challenge! The theme is vegetables. Don't quite know how this works but we'll find out! Here's to those shrivelled carrots!
Another shot I took on my walk yesterday, not exactly a sign but I thought it was interesting, its actually one of the numbers on a telephone or power poll, but rotated here
Have a good Sunday everyone

So apparently it's National Nature Photography Day today.
Here is my contribution... A black and white picture of the sun beating down on the grass.

Day 9 challenge is another cheat day I'm afraid. Between work and a headache, just didn't get a chance for a photo opportunity today.
Posting one from last week instead and still from 2023 so still counts 😜
Taken for photochallenge 2009, day 133: rock
I post it a bit later than the actual day, had been very busy, but it is taken yesterday, in the right day. Sorry, I am a bit behind with commenting, will go to your photos as soon as I can, hope tonight (it is morning now here).

BDCC Monthly challenge: British summertime
5:40 PM Cromer pier in the middle of July should be buzzing with life, People eating fish and chips, children running around and the general hubbub that is usually found on the pier in summer. Have I cloned them out? No, it was bitterly cold and blowing a hoolie (it had rained all day) not a soul to be found here...except yours truly who just had to get a photo.

2017 Photochallenge, week 4: Rule of Thirds/Toys and Games
While the blocks are centered, I felt the two towers and the base followed the rule of thirds. Is this a correct application of the rule of thirds?
Building blocks kept at our home to entertain grandchildren, when they visit.
This week's double whammy of snow followed by plummeting unseasonable temperatures have done in a lot of the spring flowers like this little hyacinth - of course, they bloomed a little too early anyway, due to the very mild winter we've had. It's still pink-ish but very limp and soggy lying unhappily in the snow.
2017 PhotoChallenge, week 23: Once upon a time…
I spy with my little eye...Look who was curious to see us off to work in the yard ;) photochallenge.org
Random downpour in Boise. A couple of times a year we'll get one of these where the skies just open up. Seemed like a good thing to watch through a window my 10-year old knew how to properly enjoy it ;) I didn't have a picture yet for the day and didn't dare pass it up!
The challenge:
This week, we’ll be focusing on Abstract Macro photography. In a nutshell, we want to focus on the curves, patterns, colors, and shapes within your subject, rather than on the subject itself. One important part of Abstract Macro photography is to try to obscure your subject– at least somewhat– so that it’s not immediately obvious what it is. Ideally, your photograph should capture the viewer’s attention, while they try to figure out what they’re seeing.
My process:
I’ve been cleaning out my mom’s house recently and have saved a bunch of items for photography purposes. This is one of those items. It was a lot harder than I thought to come up with an abstract composition that I was happy with. I knew I wanted to use a shallow DOF, but so many of my compositions looked unbalanced – heavily weighted to one side. I tried rotating them in all directions, but nothing helped.
Finally, I took the camera off of the tripod and got creative with some handheld positions. Ideally I would have retaken the image on the tripod once I found one I liked, but I was happy enough with the clarity of my handheld test.
Any guesses as to what it is?
Lessons learned:
In the initial creative exploration of a subject, handholding the camera allows for more creative angles which results in more compositional options.
CC appreciated.
