Before editing each photo there was a specific aesthetic and emotion I had in mind. For this first photograph, which was taken at Café Mustache, an eccentric bar and cafe located in Logan Square, I wanted to capture the feeling of the strange and intriguing décor and colors. There were several CRT TVs of different sizes broadcasting loops of ambiguous 80s glitch animations, bottle of alcohol burning a bright amber from the lights shining through them, and an electric blue lamp that caught my eye. There are other details that fade into the dimly lit background that hint at more oddities. To drastically change the composition, I first cropped the image in closer for a more full and focused composition. I then lowered the brightness to -34, and increased the contrast to +58. This darkened the overall composition. Then, to achieve the chromatic aberration, I duplicated the base layer three times and isolated the RGB values. I moved each one individually using the arrow keys so that they were noticeably separated. Finally, I added a layer, filled it in white, and then added a noise filter. I set it above the original base layer. I think it made the original image much more interesting and brings out the personality of the location without having to be physically present.
